MOUNT DORA HIGH SCHOOLIn my third season as Mount Dora’shead football coach, I wanted towelcome everyone to the 2024 FootballSeason! Following a 7-3 season, theCanes football program hascommitted ourselves to working at ahigher level. Through offseasonstrength training, speed training andoffensive and defensive meetings, ourplayers have shown tremendousgrowth Since the end of last season, we havebeen fortunate to completely updateboth the interior and exterior of ourlocker room, our metal storage shedand the PAC House. We also added theAll State Players Board to honor thegreat athletes of Mount Dora Footballthroughout the years. The Canes thumped in county opponent East Ridgeby a score of 45-14. #7 Zyshonne Perry took theopening kickoff for a 97 yard touchdown setting thetone for the night. The Canes dominated the line ofscrimmage with a punishing ground game toaccumlate over 500 total yards of offense with a 5 TDeffort from #9 Tymir Gaines. The Canes defense shutdown the East Ridge offense holding them to 14points. #10 Elijah McGhee was the leading tacklerwith 12 total tackles. #33 EJ Balderas had a criticalfumble recovery to seal the victory. #24 JuniorCayden McCoy was instrumental on special teamsgoing 2/2 on Field goals with a long of 30 yards, 4touchbacks on kickoff and 5/6 on extra pointattempts. 4514Week #2 Recap

WEEK #4 Preview

The Mount Dora Hurricanes (2-0) host the Bishop Moore Hornets (3-0) this Friday night with a 7:00pm kickoff. This will be the first of four district games for each team. The Canes are coming off of a bye week after defeating East Ridge High School 45-14 and Sebastian River High School 28-14. The Hornets are entering the week with a 3-0 record with wins against Oviedo, Tottenville (NY) and Bartow. 


The Canes are lead offensively by Quarterback Jake Sepe, 15 of 26 for 316 yards, 3TDs and ) Interceptions, Running Back Tymir Gaines 577 all purposes yards and 8TDs as well as wide receivers Tanner Waring and Zyshonne Perry with 367 all purpose yards and two touchdowns. Defensively, the Canes are lead by leading tacklers Elijah McGhee, EJ Balderas and Jonathon Wilson with EJ Balderas, Coltin Fickett and Jaren Reynolds contributing in the tunrover category. 


Special Teams have played a huge factor in each of the two games with Cayden McCoy providing valuable field position with 8 touchbacks, 2 field goals and 9 extra points.  Zyshonne Perry has also contributed on special teams with a Kickoff Return for a touchdown.


The Bishop Moore Hornets are lead offensively by QB #12 Bjorn Jurgensen who is 48/69 for 811 yards, 7TDs and 1 interception also contributing 172 yards and 5 TDs rushing.  The hornets leading WR is #3 Kenyon Alston with 13 receptions for 268 yards and 4TDs. #21 Amare Johnson is the leading RB with 45 carries for 245 yards and 2 TDs. 


Defensively, the Hornets are lead by #0 Lance Johnson with 28 total tackles and #10 Devin St. Claire with 22 total tackles.
