Welcome to MissionConnexion at Valley Presbyterian Church! Our congregation and leadership are excited to host MissionConnexion Southwest 2024. The church is God’s plan for the renewal of the world. This means mission - making more people more like Christ and healing the things in this world that break God’s heart. MissionConnexion is a chance to explore, in one place, some of the most dynamic mission enterprises and agents we can partner with, in this calling. In our divided world, it is also a reminder of the way gospel engagement crosses every boundary of race, culture, geography and language to create the kingdom. Thank you for coming. May God bless and inspire us by opening our eyes, forming our hearts and challenging our faith. Yours in Christ, David Joynt | Senior PastorGreetings and welcome to the 4th annual MissionConnexion Southwest! We are honored to have you join us and we are thankful to have Valley Presbyterian Church host this year’s event. The team at Valley Presbyterian Church has been a true joy to partner with and I hope you will experience the warmth from them during your visit here. This conference has been purposely designed with you in mind. Whether through corporate worship, or hearing from keynote speakers or workshop presenters, it is our prayer that you will be blessed and encouraged by your time here. We especially want you to experience the presence of Jesus, because it’s through our encounters with Him that we nd the fuel for God’s mission. This year’s theme is “All In”. The premise of this theme is for us, as a community of God’s saints, to be All In on seeing the Gospel go throughout the ends of the earth. For some of you that may mean God is calling you out of your comfort zone to go to unreached places around the world. For others it may mean that you help welcome the different nations being represented in our country. For some of you that may mean that you help send out more laborers to go and for others it may mean that you increase your prayer life to help intercede on behalf of those going. Whatever role God is calling you into, we hope that you feel inspired and more equipped to live out this calling from our time together.Be blessed to be a blessing!Jake Embleton | MissionConnexion Southwest CoordinatorDaniel and Coreen Esplin EmceeDaniel and Coreen Esplin are dedicated members of the Indian Bible College (IBC) in Flagstaff, Arizona. | 11How a Changing Purpose Changes TripsRyan Hurlburt CultureLink, Inc. Our “why” behind our mission trips matter—and so does our host’s. Whether we know it or not, our purpose affects how we communicate as partners, what we plan, how we communicate with our goers, and how we follow up. Do you know your purpose for planning a mission trip? Has it changed?Purposefully Designing With Your PartnerRyan Hurlburt & Yonathan MoyaCultureLink, Inc. & Border PerspectiveThis workshop will help you work with your partner to design a trip based around a shared purpose rather than the agenda of one partner. When done well, your trips will be more creative and effective and your teams will be better prepared. Reciprocal Relationships RequiredDan ShoemakerReciprocal Ministries InternationalFor too long, most mission trips have been one way trafc from the sender to the receiver. Yet God’s intention for relationship is that they be reciprocal. We’ll think through how you can engage in reciprocal relationships that result in mutually benecial ministry plans.Practicing True Religion on Mission TripsStephanie RobinsonThe Faith to Action InitiativeIt’s important that our mission trips are wise, biblical, and culturally appropriate. This Ignite Talk will focus on how we minister to orphan and vulnerable children, pointing out how easy it is to harm rather than help when we put ourselves and our own satisfaction rst. How to Build Meaningful Relationships with Global Church Partners Dan ShoemakerReciprocal Missions InternationalGod has not made us the same body part, but He has made us part of the same body! Too often what we say are relationships are really one-directional wish fulllment interactions. We’ll look at how to build meaning relationships with people who are different than us for the benet of both of us.Youth Mission Trips Without CompromiseTory RurakMissionWorksAre you afraid to take students on a mission trip? Not sure who would host them or what they could contribute? Let’s think together about how everyone can benet from getting youth actively involved in missions.Family Mission Trips Without Compromise Brian & Melanie StarkWorldVentureThere is a place for families on mission trips, but it has to be done well so we don’t compromise the ministry role of the parents or our host’s ministry. This Ignite Talk will be the catalyst for a discussion on how to do family mission trips well. Are Words Important?Yonathan MoyaBorder PersepctivesDo words matter? How do you talk about your mission trips? You’ll be challenged to think about how your words and descriptions are perceived by others and set expectations. How can you honor God, your hosts, and those you serve even in the way you describe and talk about your trips?Internships & Gap Years Without CompromiseBrian & Melanie StarkWorldVentureInternships and gap years often come about because the intern desires a specic experience. This is not bad, but can be dangerous for their hosts. We’ll consider how we can harness this unique opportunity in a person’s life for their benet as well as the ministry hosting them.Ignite Talk 1 Friday 5:30 – 6:30 PMWorkshops Saturday 10:15 – 11:45 AMWorkshop 1 Saturday 10:15 – 11:00 AMWorkshop 2 Saturday 11:00 – 11:45 AMInspiring Globally-Minded ChristiansIgnite Talk 2 Saturday 12:15 – 1:30 PMHow Are Mission Trips Changing?

And the enemy tempted Him to take risks and to take rest. As we walk with Him on mission we will navigate some of the same tensions, so let’s look together at how Jesus navigated them!Discipling Native YouthJason Koppen & TeamIndian Bible CollegeDespite past centuries of genocidal impact upon Native peoples the population is exploding with Native young people. This workshop will explain how to reach and grow Native American young people, taught by a seasoned missionary who has spent over 30 years ministering to Apache, Navajo and Pueblo peoples.Rethinking Ministry for Maximum ImpactDavid Hinman & TeamNew GenerationsDisciple Making Movements (DMMs) are spreading globally, leading to new disciples, churches, and leaders in previously unreached areas. These movements challenge traditional ministry, requiring paradigm shifts for exponential Kingdom growth. This workshop will help you embrace these changes to catalyze and multiply disciples.“Peter, John and the Holy Spirit (what does it mean to be lled?)”Christina ZeebAll NationsJesus told his rst followers that they would receive power from the Holy Spirit and be His witnesses where they were, nearby and to the ends of the earth. But what did that actually look like in their lives? And what could it look like in ours? Incarnating the Gospel Among Native peoplesJason Koppen & TeamIndian Bible CollegeTraditional Native Americans often consider Christianity the White person’s religion and Jesus the White person’s savior. The Story & The Kingdom (Pt. 1)Nathan D’JiimNextGenThe grand drama told in Scripture, and the gospel Jesus announced, are intricately connected. By losing track of the former, evangelicals have reduced the latter to a ‘decision’ which often fails to transform the ‘deciders.’ Jesus’ good news of abundant Kingdom LIFE is actually good news, far better than today’s self-focused message of forgiveness.Reaching College Professors and StudentsDr. Corey MillerRatio ChristiThis workshop describes the strategy of using apologetics that Ratio Christi uses to reach both students and professors on today’s college campuses. | 17 | 17Taking “Next Steps” after MissionConnexion SouthwestSaturday, November 2, 2024 2:00 - 3:00 PMThe world’s problems can seem overwhelming and daunting at times. As followers of Jesus, we desire to jump in and serve but many times we struggle with questions of where do I serve? How? What capacity? Will I have enough time? Can I use my work-related skills and gifts to bless others? This conference is designed with the desire to help you to have clarity and discernment in where you believe God may be leading you. Some people are sure of their missions-related role and that is great. We hope you nd a number of resources to help you on your journey. Others are not sure of what their role is at this stage of life and for the future. Those of us working together for this conference are committed to see tangible, God-honoring results. We have been praying regularly that God would use this time to speak to you and that you would then take the “next steps” as a result of this time together. We have identied six areas of missions-related roles that are possible “next steps”: Learner, Pray-er, Mobilizer, Sender, Welcomer and Goer. In order to make this as practical as possible we have scheduled a time block for each person to attend a workshop on these six areas from 2:00 - 3:00 PM Saturday, November 2, 2024. Our prayer and desire is that each person would be seeking God’s direction while going through the various sessions of this conference, giving some prayerful thought to which of those six sessions would be the best t. More will be explained during the conference. Included below are some questions that may help in determining your possible “next steps”.Am I a Sender… with a great concern for the lost of this world, a desire to use my resources to see people be sent to share the gospel and willingness to learn to sacrice in order that the good news of Jesus’ love and redemption can be sent out around the world? Location: Room C206Am I a Learner… with a sense that God is leading me to a future Great Commission role but realizing that right now I need to be serious about deepening my relationship with Jesus, studying and learning from the Word of God and learn “... what God is doing in the world today while seeking what role He has for me to reach the unreached for Christ?” Location: C201Am I a Welcomer… with a passion to engage with people who are coming to America from other cultures, to see this as a way to show the love of Jesus and to share with them the plan of salvation, to commit my time and energy to these relationships, seeing this as the same level of commitment made by those called to minister in another country and culture? Location: B106Am I a Pray-er… with a God-given passion to pray for the unreached, to pray for more workers for the harvest, to pray for the workers I know, to pray for God’s will to be done on earth with a willingness to make prayer a priority time commitment?Location: C204Am I a Goer… with a willingness to humble myself, to learn how to lovingly and sacricially cross cultures to live in such a way so others can hear the good news of Jesus, being passionate for the cause of Christ, purposeful and determined to be obedient—no matter what the cost— and willing to prepare well?Location: C205Am I a Mobilizer… with a great desire to help people nd their calling, encourage others, help them with guidance, direction, and a listening ear, willing to pray with them and for them and to stand with them in their difculties and their victories and help see the local church mobilized into greater service for the Kingdom of God? Location: Student Center
