Impact March 2022 A bumper edition to cover February and March with a focus on all the good things happening on BEP In response to queries we are also posting links to where you can donate to help the Ukrainian refugees We are also highlighting a number of activities that we need you to get involved in for 2022 So remember to get in touch with me by email cath howard bepdt com or ring me on 07881383488 Fundraising and community activity within BEP Washington House Foodbank Visit Last year BEP gave a donation of 2 500 to Warrington foodbank The Warrington warehouse acts as a hub for 3 other smaller foodbanks around the area On Thursday 25th February a small group of BEP and Sellafield staff visited the foodbank in order to learn more about the operation As a result of the visit we are looking to have a donation point in the BEP kitchen at WH to make it easy for staff to give tins and dried food to support this vital charity David the volunteer chief executive told us more about the foodbank In operation since 2012 giving out over 136 tonnes of food per year providing 21 000 meals a year to over 150 families a week 158 volunteers operate over 5 days a week They expanded their range to provide school uniforms children s clothing winter coats baby products cleaning products can openers etc Deliver to housebound or very vulnerable people Use a voucher scheme to ensure food is fairly distributed but provide emergency packs to people who don t know about the vouchers Provided a kettle food pack to homeless people living in hotels during covid as they couldn t access a kitchen but had a kettle in the room West Cumbria Site The charity Skye Full of Stars awards grants to children young people aged 25 and under in the Millom area to help them fulfil their dreams including college university students sports awards dance and music The Charity was nominated to receive 333 of our special Christmas funding and the photo below was sent in by Sharon Fry who said the following Thank you so much to Millie for putting us forward and to you and your company for considering our charity A Skye Full of Stars Above is a photo of some of the boys who have been selected to play County Cricket and we supported them with help towards their equipment fees and travel costs Our thanks to David volunteer pictured right with Brenda Martin Tracey Northey Lorna Simpson Tracy Tuck Elaine Burgess and Cath Howard your monthly BEP social impact news

Impact Social Impact supported by BEPDT Time to Talk Day Dream Placement 2022 Cath Melvin wrote about the Time to Talk Day event at site and sent me some lovely photos of you all On Thursday 3rd February BEP hosted a Tea Talk session for Time to Talk day It was a very successful day with lots of conversation was very well attended from both the office site based workforce As well as providing the opportunity to talk about all things Wellbeing related it was a great team building session with several of the workforce expressing interest in improving their Mental Health knowledge training up as Mental Health First Aiders in order help themselves their colleagues which was great to see Not least to mention all the fantastic cake treats supplied by the workforce A total of 56 45 was raised for Mental Health charity Mind which is being match funded by BEP JV bringing the total to 112 90 Many Thanks to all for supporting this and to all the staff supporting similar events in WH and Stockton Cath Melvin THANK YOU Our thanks to all the staff involved in the 2022 Dream Placement including Andrew Sharman Bill Holmes Carliene Stagg Caroline Waters Dave Brown David Gandy Emily Yeels Joy Blackburn Ken Turner Kenny driver Kieran Macleod Lillian McNicholas Natalie Melia Patrick Connolly Ross Cleeton Rory Richardson Tammy Nolan Thomas Hyland Vicki Graves and Warren Faunch BEP was one of 40 employers offering motivated and ambitious young people across Cumbria opportunities to learn about leadership and careers through Dream Placement 2022 Nearly 150 teenagers 1618 year olds applied to take part in the unique programme that combines face to face contact with online engagement to build confidence develop skills and offer workplace insights BEP has been involved for a number of years and in partnership with Balfour Beatty the students also gain their Industrial Cadets Bronze Award Our placements Blain and Lawrie were asked to undertake research and develop options around moving a 15tonne Morris crane out of the BEP building as safely and efficiently as possible They then presented their findings to an expert panel Feedback from the young men included I would like to say how fortunate I am of being let onto this placement and appreciate being chosen in the interview process It was a really good week which was well set out Also it was very good experience for the future and has been taught me lots of different things The highlight of the day Speaking with Bill about his career and learning about apprenticeships which could become helpful in future What did you learn Leadership is about people not the project It has definitely opened a door to a different career I haven t massively looked into It has provided me with options and see how construction in the nuclear industry is a possibility and something I would potentially enjoy your monthly BEP social impact news
