May 7 2021 CLEARLY DIVINE Dear Parents The possuk states The Mitzvah of requires that we let the land rest Rashi quoting Toras Kohanim wonders why the Torah explicitly mentions s current location Har Sinai when introducing the mitzvah of shmittah Weren t all mitzvos transmitted at Har Sinai Rashi famously responds that just as the mitzvah of shmittah the details of which are extensively delineated in the coming psukim was transmitted at Sinai all mitzvos were given in a similarly detailed manner at Sinai A question still remains Why was shmittah singled out to demonstrate this principle Rav Schwab explains that the unique nature of this mitzvah proves that the Torah was indeed given at by the Had the Torah been authored by human hands and minds this mitzvah would have never been included People would find such a mitzvah absurd allow an entire country s crop to lie fallow for a full year Though crop rotation allows land to replenish its nutrients and ensures greater harvest in future years one would never decree that every field vineyard and orchard simultaneously remain uncultivated for a full year People would view such an idea as a surefire method of precipitating an economic crisis Furthermore no human would extend this further and command that the land lie fallow for two consecutive years as occurs when a Yovel year follows shmittah And certainly no human would have the audacity to guarantee that there would be sufficient abundant crops in the sixth year of the cycle to suffice for the seventh and eighth year Clearly only Hashem in His infinite wisdom could have devised such a mitzvah 7 32 PM May 16 Erev Shavuos 2 8B 12 00 noon dismissal May 17 18 Shavuos No School May 19 School begins at 10 00 AM Thus shmittah is the perfect choice to serve as the example that mitzvos were given in all their detail at Sinai Shmittah is so clearly divine that it must follow that all the other mitzvos are divinely given as well Rabbi Ochs On Monday the boys in grades one through 8 enjoyed their Lag B Omer trip to Millennium Park Rain rain go away come again another day While we need the rain to make things grow the Lag B Omer trip to the zoo for the girls in grades 1 8G had to be postponed We look forward to going this coming Wednesday Mazel Tov to the girls in grade 3 on completing Thank you Mrs Posy With the beginning of the month of May the end of the school year is fast approaching The Hamilton classes are preparing their end of year performances 2G is preparing for their Rus play next week Grades 3 is preparing for the annual Shmoneh Esrei play Due to the Covid shutdown grade 4 did not preform the Shmoneh Esrei play and will do it this year In the Preschool the PreK classes are practicing for their Aleph Beis shows The Kindergarten kinderlach are so excited that they will soon be receiving their siddurim at the upcoming siddur play Of course our eighth graders are anticipating their end year trips and graduations Batsheva Schapira a social worker visited 7G and 8G on Zoom She shared with the how to use the five senses to lessen anxiety and answered many questions about what she does in her daily work Thank you Mrs Benmergui for coordinating the Zoom session
