CLOSER TO HASHEM 7:31 PM May 6, 2022 ה ‘ב״פשת רייא םישודק תשרפ Thurs, May 19 - Lag B’Omer Monday, May 30 - Memorial’s Day, Hamilton - 11:50 AM dismissal, Williston - 12:00 noon Dear Parents, In Parshas Kedoshim, the possuk reads: ׳ה ינא ורמשת יתותבש תאו וארית ויבאו ומא שיאםכיקולא. A person should fear his mother and father and guard the Shabbos, I am Hashem. Chazal derive from the juxtaposition of the two ideas that if a parent demands that a child transgress a Mitzvah, a child may not obey the parent, because םכיקולא ׳ה ינא, I am your Hashem, ידובכב ןיבייח םכלוכ. Both the child and parent are obligated in my honor. Hashem’s honor supersedes honoring one's parents. Rav Yaakov Kamenetsky, ל״צז asks: What is the connection between םירוה דוביכ and תבש תרימש that the Torah employs this Mitzvah to teach the concept of ׳ה ינאםכיקולא? He answers by noting that those who believe in the evolutionary progress of animal to human thus believe that as more generations distance themselves from their animal origins they become more human. According to this reasoning, the older generations should honor the younger ‘more evolved’ generation. However, as םינימאמ ינב םינימאמ we believe that םדא was ה״בקה לש ויפכ ריצי. Hashem created Man and the further we are from that creation, the more distant and smaller we are from the greatness of the original construction of Hashem’s direct Hand. Therefore, it is incumbent upon the younger generation to venerate older תורוד as they are closer to that G-dly experience. Since Shabbos is the mechanism we employ to remember תישארב השעמ, the Torah connects the mitzvah of Shabbos with honoring one's parents. !תבש טוג Rabbi Ochs Our 40th Anniversary Gala was a beautiful event.
