HUMILITY IS THE KEY 7: 49 PM May 24, 2019 י“טעשת רייא ט רהב תשרפ  May 27 - Memorial Day – Hamilton dismissal for Preschool and 1-8G 11:50 AM, Williston dismissal for grades 1-8B 12:00 noon After studying this Rashi, a question still remains. Why was the mitzvah of Shmittah chosen from all mitzvos to deliver this message? The ייחב וניבר explains that there is a unique connection between Har Sinai and Shmittah. Shmittah is also called Shabbos, תבש ץראה התבשו׳הל. Once a week, on Shabbos, we cease working, and submit ourselves to Hashem, proclaiming that He is the master of the world and our lives. During the Shmittah year, we bring this concept to a new level. We submit, not just for a week, but proclaim for a full year that whatever we produce or do is completely in the hands of Hashem. The recognition that we achieve during this year, instills within us the humility to realize that our destiny is controlled by Hashem. It is this humility which then allows us to grow in Torah. As the Gemara relates, Har Sinai was chosen as the site for הרותה תלבק because of its humility. This aspect of הונע is what forms the bond between יניס and הטימש and makes Shmittah the natural choice to teach the lesson that all mitzvos were given at Sinai. For it is only through הונע and a clear-cut realization that Hashem is the master of us all that we can become true performers of all 613 mitzvos given at Har Sinai. The Kotzker Rebbe ל״צז asked that if Hashem wished to demonstrate that Torah is predicated on humility, why did He give the Torah on a mountain? Would it not have been more appropriate for Him to give the Torah in a valley? Replied the Rebbe in his famed incisive manner: Our goal in life is not to be a valley. Our goal is to be a mountain - but from the height of the mountain we must have the proper humble perspective of Har Sinai. Have a תבש טוג! Rabbi Ochs Rashi asks the famous question regarding the first possuk of יניס רהב השמ לא ׳ה רבדיו that begins Parshas Behar: יניס רה לצא הטימש ןינע המ? Why does the Torah see fit to reiterate that the commandment of Shmittah (the first topic discussed in this Parsha) was delivered to the Jewish people by Har Sinai if all mitzvos were given at Sinai? Rashi answers his question by explaining that the Torah utilizes the mitzvah of Shmitah to demonstrate that the same level of detail we find written in this week’s parsha regarding Shmittah was present with each mitzvah that Klal Yisrael received at Har Sinai. The bulletin is sponsored by:  Our students enjoyed Lag B’Omer as well as Lab B’Omer activities. PreK1 traveled on the trolley to the Swan Boats.
