COMMUNITY ARTICLE Clear Vision Bright Futures Why Children Need Annual Eye Exams As parents we strive to provide the best for our children from nutritious meals to enriching family experiences Yet amidst the hustle and bustle of everyday life one crucial aspect of their health can oftentimes get overlooked their vision Annual eye exams for our children may not always make it to the top of our priorities but they are essential for ensuring the overall well being and success of our children Here s why 1 Early Detection of Vision Issues Just like regular check ups for teeth at the dentist and general health at the pediatrician annual eye exams with an optometrist or ophthalmologist are essential for catching potential vision problems Children may not always realize or communicate when they re having trouble seeing clearly Issues like nearsightedness farsightedness astigmatism or even more severe conditions like lazy eye amblyopia or crossed eyes strabismus can easily go undetected without a comprehensive eye exam Early detection of these problems allows for prompt intervention and treatment which can prevent long term vision impairment and improve academic performance and quality of life According to the American Optometric Association a child s first comprehensive eye exam should be done between 6 months to 1 year of life Most of us wait until our kids start complaining or fail a screening but many young children silently struggle with visual problems that can affect their everyday life This is why we need to take charge as parents and make comprehensive eye exams a priority for our infants and toddlers 2 Academic Success Vision has an enormous impact on our children s social motor and cognitive skills making it a crucial part of their academic success Studies have shown that 80 of what a child learns in school occurs through their visual system Imagine trying to learn to read when all of a sudden the words on the page appear blurry or Canyon Foot 1 4 Page Vertical Children s Dentistry Children s Dentistry 1of T4winPFaagllse Vertical 1186 Eastland Dr N B Twin Falls 208 733 9331 10 w w w s o u t h e r n i d a h o k i d s c o m

COMMUNITY ARTICLE Mother s Day Once upon a time in a lovely modest home lived a young boy named Charles One day as Charles watched his mother effortlessly prepare dinner for him and his family Charles could not help but feel a surge of gratitude welling up inside of him From the countless bedtime stories she s read to him to the scraped knees she has kissed better Charles reflects on all of the sacrifices his mother has made solely for him With Mother s Day coming up Charles wanted to express his unmoving appreciation for his mother However Charles did not know what to give her He thought to himself What are some of her favorite things in the world She likes flowers and the family and bright colors Filled with excitement Charles was ready to start his craft when his mother interrupts saying Charles Dinner s ready As he takes a tasty bite from his dinner he realizes that every dish his mother prepares carries an imprint Clark Oral 1 4 Page Vertical We are passionately committed to improving the lives of our patients by combining clinical excellence with cutting edge technology In our office we love getting to know our patients and take a sincere interest in their well being Give us a call for your oral maxillofacial needs We have two locations to conveniently serve you Burley 208 831 2901 Twin Falls 208 831 2900 18 w w w s o u t h e r n i d a h o k i d s c o m
COMMUNITY ARTICLE of her love feeding Charles another creative idea He runs to his room looks into his craft drawer and pulls out the following supplies Supplies Paper Paint Red Green Pink Blue ANY color Marker Glue stick Charles begins by gently squirting a bit of paint of every color he wants to use onto a paint pallet He then places a piece of printer paper on his desk He dips his hand into the green paint and gently places it at the center of the paper ensuring that every bit of paint has been transferred onto the piece of paper He carefully rinses his hand under water until the remaining paint is gone Then Charles dips one of his fingers into the orange paint and places his finger on the piece of paper above every green finger about a half inch away Next Charles takes another finger and dips it into a different color it around the orange dots This should have made a flower Charles repeated this last process until all five fingers had a flower growing out of it After he finished Charles realized how different his fingerprints looked on every finger as he examined his creation does yours look different Lastly after Charles allows the paint to dry and washes the paint off his hands he uses a marker to draw a cute little pot under the palm of the green hand He then adds a sweet message at the bottom of the paper expressing his gratitude toward his mother On Mother s Day Charles gave his meaningful gift to his mother Undoubtedly his mother loved Charles s present She gave him a sweet thank you and a hug filled with love in return Paula Weeks CMMV Communications Chair Makona 1 4 Page Vertical 19 M a y 2 0 2 4
