MARKETING CAMPAIGN CardiacTargetMen and women ages 45+. A younger age bracket allows us to capture potential patients in both phases of the journey. GoalInvite our target to care for their heart health and seek out a cardiologist and/or position the hospitals as a place for cardiac care. OpportunityAdvisory Board projects that by 2035, 45% of the US population will have some sort of cardiovascular disease. Why? Because, sometimes, early warning signs are left unchecked. We have an opportunity to message not only those seeking the best care for an existing diagnosis, but to those who may still not realize they should be looking for care, as well. MARKETING CAMPAIGN BariatricsTargetMen and women, though patients tend to skew females, who are starting to really consider medically-assisted weight loss programs, especially surgery.GoalEmpower prospective patients by showing them we provide the support they need to take back their lives.OpportunityDignity Health understands that bariatrics is a long journey that will require ongoing check-ins and access to specialists. We use this point of differentiation to show patients that there’s a better way to go through this journey with a complete team of experts supporting the patient in the ways they need them to.HospitalsSJRMC, GMHTacticsDigital, Direct mail, Brochures, VideosCriteria for weight loss surgeryThe National Institutes of Health and the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery have established the following criteria. To be a candidate for bariatric surgery, a patient must:• Be more than 100 pounds over ideal weight• Have a BMI of 40 or greater, or a BMI of 35–39.9 with co-morbiditiessuch as diabetes or hypertension that would improve signicantly withweight loss• Have tried and been unable to lose weight through diet and exercise• Have prepared to make a lifelong commitment to dietary, exercise, andbehavioral changes necessary for long-term success• Have no mental or behavioral disorders that may interfere with long-term weight loss successSurgical weight loss proceduresOur bariatric surgeons work with each patient to determine the procedure most appropriate based on factors including weight, diet, underlying medical conditions, lifestyle habits, and overall health. The Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass Also known as the “RNY” or “bypass,” this is the most commonly selected procedure for patients needing signicant weight loss. This procedure restricts the amount of food one can eat before becoming full, limits the amount of sugars and fats one can tolerate, and has the added benet of reducing the amount of food one can absorb.Sleeve Gastrectomy Also known as the “sleeve,” this procedure removes a portion of the stomach—leaving a small sleeve-shaped stomach, which restricts the amount of food one can eat before becoming full. Because it removes an area of the stomach where ghrelin (the hormone that induces hunger) is produced, one result is a signicantly reduced appetite. This is less malabsortive than the Gastric Bypass. The Lap Band® For The Lap Band® procedure, the surgeon places a band around the stomach to reduce the amount of food that one can eat in one sitting. This procedure has more maintenance than the other two operations but still allows signicant weight reduction.Take the next stepIt is said each journey begins with the first step. We encourage interested patients to schedule an initial consultation to meet the bariatric surgery team and have their questions answered. June Collison, CHSB Hospital President, adds, “It is our privilege to provide care to the diverse residents of San Bernardino, including vaccinating our high-risk communities of color and elderly populations, who are an example of hope and healing.” The vaccine also brought hope to -year-old Esperanza de Anaya who was among , vulnerable residents vaccinated at Dignity Health - California Hospital Medical Center CHMC in Downtown Los Angeles – one of the most diverse communities in Southern California. Southern California | 5Madeline, Esperanza and many others were able to come to their local Dignity Health hospital to receive their vaccines. However, many seniors lack transportation, or have health complications that prevent them from traveling to a vaccination site. To address these challenges, GMHHC partnered with the Glendale Fire Department GFD to launch a vaccination program for homebound seniors. The partnership paired a GMHHC nurse with a GFD paramedic team to ride along and administer the single-shot Johnson & Johnson vaccine to seniors in the comfort of their own homes. “Vaccinating those most at-risk of severe COVID, including our older residents, is our top priority,” states Jill Welton. “As a community hospital, we are here when our patients enter our doors for help, but we also must enter their doors if we want to end this pandemic together.” As each of our hospitals continued to oer vaccination clinics to meet the needs of our communities, Dignity Health realized it could quickly vaccinate thousands with access to a large venue. In February and March, Dignity Health partnered with AEG and the LA Galaxy to vaccinate more than , people at the Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson. “Many of the vaccine recipients are part of our most diverse communities, which have been amongst the hardest hit, with limited access to health care,” shares Julie Sprengel, President, Southern California Division. “It’s so important that we do all we can to help our communities that are most at risk.” All of our COVID vaccination eorts remind us what can be accomplished when we work together. Whether the vaccine is administered at one of our hospitals, in a senior resident’s home, or at the Dignity Health Sports Park, we can all take pride in our ability to deliver “Hope in a Bottle” to thousands of residents to help end the pandemic. Diversity, Equity, InclusionLGBTQ + Pride MonthFor the first time our DH Southern California hospitals participated in the famous Hollywood Pride Parade in June 2022. As recognized HEI leaders and top performers by the Human Rights Campaign, our Southern California hospitals were proud to be a part of the celebrations. At Dignity Health, we seek to improve the health of the people we serve, especially those who are vulnerable. As a national health system we are acting to address systemic inequities experienced by Black, Indigenous, People of Color, as well as vulnerable and underserved populations including Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer communities. The first steps we are taking include expanding access to care in underserved communities; improving how we track outcomes by race, ethnicity and language as well as by sexual orientation and gender identity; expanding implicit and unconscious bias training; growing programs that address the social determinants of health to remove barriers to good health and further diversifying our leadership, workforce and suppliers.Instagram Reel40Marketing Communications SoCal Division | Year in Review 2022
