March 31, 2023ג״פשת ןסינ ’טוצ תשרפ TRANSFORMATIONAL6:50 PMDear Parents,The ל״רהמ writes in his sefer ׳ה תורובג that the purpose of the הוצמ of םירצמ תאיצי רופיס is to publicize the miracles that occurred. Therefore, the Torah commands ךנבל תדגהו – we are directed to relate the story of Yetzias Mitzrayim to our children because that is the principle mitzvah. Our children know the story. They have learned and studied it. Why are we obligated to repeat it year after year? The answer is that the ultimate purpose of the mitzvah is not informational, it is transformational. It is to bring and lead us to offer האדוהו חבש to Hashem for all He has done and continues to do for us. Therefore, תא םיעדוי ונלכ םינובנ ונלכ םימכח ונלכ וליפא הרותה, despite any level of wisdom we’ve attained, we still remain obligated רפסל םירצמ תאיציב. We need to retell the tale to achieve a new appreciation and insight into praising and thanking Hashem for His tremendous miracles year after year. On the night of the seder we retell and relive the story to the extent that we ourselves feel that we were redeemed and experienced the exodus. This explains why immediately before Hallel we pronounce הקוללה השדח הריש וינפל רמאנו – we say a new song before Him. Hallel is not a new song. These words of Tehillim are thousands of years old. Yet we call it a השדח הריש because for us it is a new song. A new song of thanksgiving - not for what took place in the past - but for the present redemption from Egypt that we are currently experiencing during our seder. Thank you to the Rebbeim and Moros for preparing the children with Divrei Torah and beautiful projects. Please enjoy and shep nachas from your children! Thank you to Rabbi and Mrs. J.P. Katz for sponsoring a day of learning as a zechus for my full recovery.
