COMMUNITY MANAGEMENT The realities of the ongoing pandemic hit close to home on Wednesday March 3 when we had to close the River Club due to staff exposure to COVID 19 The affected staff member immediately quarantined and all food and beverage service was suspended until all staff could be tested At the time of writing this we have received confirmation that several of the staff members working Saturday February 27 have tested negative and that the River Club and kitchen have been thoroughly cleaned We are happy to return to operation starting Sunday March 7 with the re opening of the TIki Bar In this edition of Lefe Life we feature many of our uniquely Waterlefe activities most are entertaining some are civic responsibilities We ve also included a few rules to live by in order to make the most of this life at the Lefe I am very pleased to have Steve Dietz join our opening pages Steve and I have worked together for over 10 years and I could not ask for a better counterpart Thanks for joining the Lefe Life Team Steve Have you joined a virtual MPOA Board Meeting yet Like the rest of the world we have been conducting our meetings on Zoom for almost a year In March we will be upgrading our virtual participation platform in anticipation of our eventual return to live meetings We are all looking forward to being face to face again but will continue to offer a live stream of the monthly meeting Details on how to access the new live stream are forthcoming Finally it is with regret that I announce Chef Kory Hudson has resigned his position with Waterlefe Golf and River Club effective April 1 2021 We will begin the process of conducting a search for a new chef and will keep the community apprised of the progress Please join me in wishing Chef Kory great success in his future endeavors Spring is just around the corner and with it comes warmer weather and blossoming flowers shrubs and trees Springtime is one of the most beautiful times for Waterlefe and with the time change longer days to enjoy outdoor activities By the time you are reading this you may have already seen the new annuals installed throughout the community The new impatiens will provide a splash of colors to complement many other improvements of the community s landscape over the past two years These improvements are largely due to the hard work of the CDD Landscape Committee whose vision and support to the CDD staff continue to make Waterlefe one of the most beautiful communities in our area Those who have worked on the Landscape Committee for these projects are Mike Jacobs Chairman Dona Lasseter Angela Potter Nancy Rechcigl Becky Kutska and Sig Feile with Dick Carroll serving as the CDD Board Liaison Spring also brings the start of Daylight Savings Time with more residents outdoors walking bike riding etc because of the extra hour of daylight in the evening I would like to remind all drivers to follow the speed limit and traffic signs of the community while being alert to fellow residents walking and biking I would also like to remind everyone that the sidewalks are for walkers and all bikes and golf carts are to remain on the roadways Lastly the golf course remains busy and for your safety remember that the golf course is only for registered golfers We have an amazing lifestyle here at Waterlefe and I look forward to seeing everyone enjoy all that we have to offer At your service Steve Dietz CDD General Manager Jen Milne MPOA General Manager COO 2 Lefe Life March 2021 Manager Letters 3

MPOA BOARD MEETING The Board of Directors acknowledged receipt of information from villa owner and former chair of the Villa Landscape Task Force and heard comments from six villas owners about their concerns about villa landscape maintenance The MPOA Board of Directors met virtually on Wednesday February 24 2021 at 2 pm via Zoom The MPOA Board responded by explaining their fiduciary responsibility to all 617 members of the association of which 156 are villas and respectfully requested villa homeowners allow Property Management to manage the villas landscape maintenance contract as planned FEBRUARY SUMMARY Fining Hearing The Board moved to suspend use rights voting rights and to file a claim of lien on a unit that is delinquent in paying violation fines and association assessments A final appeal to the Covenant Enforcement Committee is scheduled Motion A motion to approve the new Capital Projects Committee Charter was postponed until March The Board agreed that all Standing Committees of the MPOA should work in a cohesive manner in service to Waterlefe s overall strategic plans Key language will be added to all appropriate Standing Committee Charters Design Review Board Updates DRB In the month of January the DRB approved 20 applications for paint landscape roofs windows driveways front doors pools enclosures and docks Please remember Waterlefe Golf River Club is a deed restricted community Any changes to the exterior of your home must be approved IN ADVANCE and require submission of an Application for Residential Change prior to work commencing Work Orders and Trends Community Association Manager CAM Report Property Management received 17 work orders for Villas maintenance 20 for Villas irrigation and 124 for owner mailboxes facilities condos and Marina Club Mailboxes Currently Property Management will maintain repair and replace all mailboxes posts and light fixtures Electrical repairs are the responsibility of the homeowner Property Management has a comprehensive plan to rehab all mailboxes in the community If you have an immediate need for repair call in a work order Otherwise you can expect to see a freshly painted mailbox by next fall We thank you for your patience as we tackle this extensive and weather sensitive project February Board Report 8 Lefe Life March 2021 January Approved Minutes LET YOUR VOICE BE HEARD On January 25 2021 all 617 Waterlefe Homeowners were requested to participate in a significant community vote that would modify Amendment 18 in our covenants 67 YES votes were needed to approve this modification 54 YES Votes 2 NO votes cast 44 NO votes non cast This is why your vote matters The community only needed 76 more homeowners to vote YES to pass this important amendment Your MPOA continues to emphasize community involvement and participation in key decisions We will bring this vote back to the 2022 Annual Meeting and will again request your support in making this important change This change is very common in community associations in order to make updating governing documents easier Updating governing documents ensures that they remain consistent with applicable law and consistent with the changing dynamics of the ownership and the will of the community Jay Roberts Amending Governing Documents Part I Why For more information about the benefits of passing this amendment and updating governing documents click here MPOA Updates MPOA Updates 9 7

TRESPASSER UPDATE CDD Golf Club Updates Click here to view the March 2021 edition of Golfer s Glance 10 Lefe Life March 2021 Almost a year ago one of our neighbors was involved in an altercation with an unauthorized group of trespassers The CDD has made every effort to assist and support our homeowner to prosecute these trespassers The CDD s Counsel Andrew Cohen has repeatedly followed up on the progress of this criminal matter In the course of Mr Cohen s months long follow up the case was assigned to three different Assistant State Attorneys ASA with which he has had various contacts Most recently the third ASA told Mr Cohen that he needed to contact the Manatee Sheriff s Office Sergeant who investigated the case He has left messages for the Sheriff twice with no response At this point the case officially remains open with an ASA The CDD s Counsel will respond timely to any contact from an ASA or Manatee County Sheriff s Office about this case but will no longer actively follow up on the matter CDD Updates 11

FEATURING LINDA MIKE JACOBS WRITTEN BY JACK RITCHIE IN THE SPOTLIGHT Mike and Linda grew up about 7 miles apart in neighboring small towns in Iowa They met in church when Linda was in 4th grade and Mike was in 5th grade and started dating at ages 15 and 16 attending the original movie Casino Royale Linda was a high school basketball star where she held the state record for 100 consecutive free throws Mike was the local football star with stats of 14 carries 363 yards and 6 TD s in one game The couple got married in 1973 and have two adult children Kelly and Matt and two grandchildren Jet and Wesley Linda is a registered nurse who worked in dialysis cardiology and day surgery until retiring about 10 years ago Mike was a TV news anchor working in Des Moines IA Rockford IL and Milwaukee WI He spent 37 years at WTMJ TV the NBC affiliate in Milwaukee anchoring the 5 6 and 10 o clock news at the time of his retirement in 2015 Mike thinks he had the best job in the world where he got the opportunity to interview hundreds of fascinating people He preferred to call them heroes and villains or ordinary people who did extraordinary things from Olympic gold medalists to convicted murderers During his PEABODY and EMMY AwardWinning career he covered three Super Bowls Go Pack Go and two Olympics but rarely had the chance to see any plays or events because he was working not watching He also had several harrowing experiences including an extremely dangerous drive from Tel Aviv to Beirut a few hours after the US Marines barracks were blown up by a suicide bomber in 1983 20 Lefe Life March 2021 15 years ago Mike and Linda bought a brand new condo on River Basin Court and vacationed there for 6 years They then moved to a villa on Turning Leaf Terrace so they could enjoy a little more outdoor space and a view of the 7th green They ve been full timers here since Mike s retirement cherishing Waterlefe s friendly lifestyle and classy amenities Mike is the chairman of the CDD Landscape Committee and can often be seen trimming shrubs with his red handled clippers or picking up litter His mantra is Try to do something good for your community your family and yourself every day He likes to joke that his community service is restitution for all the hell he raised as a kid Mike and Linda both enjoy watching sports on TV playing golf occasionally spending time with family and friends traveling and spending time with one another They have coffee and read the newspaper every morning walk 3 4 miles a day have lunch run errands in the afternoon enjoy dinner and drinks each evening watch a little TV at night and do it all over again the next day Mike and Linda summarize their experience as pretty much a perfect lifestyle in a perfect community Around the Neighborhood 21
