here Why do I keep experiencing the same struggles How long will I need to endure Have you ever felt and asked those questions And the most significant issue How do I get out of here In this passage Jesus is led by the Spirit into the wilderness For forty days and night he was tested by the Devil He ate nothing during those days and when the time was up he was hungry The Devil played on his weakness and gave him the first test Since you re God s Son command this stone to turn into a loaf of bread Jesus responded quoting Deuteronomy It takes more than bread to live For the second test the Devil showed Jesus the kingdoms of the earth and said They re yours in all their splendor to serve your pleasure I m in charge of them all and can turn them over to whomever I wish Worship me and they re yours the whole works Jesus refused again quoting Deuteronomy Worship the Lord your God and only the Lord your God Serve Him with absolute single heartedness The final test the Devil took him to the top of the Temple and said If you are God s Son jump It s written isn t it that he has placed you in the care of angels to protect you they will catch you you won t so much as stub your toe on a stone Yes said Jesus and it s also written Don t you dare tempt the Lord your God Jesus was hungry and tired How was He able to move from the wilderness without failing the test Especially when the Devil was offering the supposed comfort to end His suffering Three things Jesus consistently identified 1 He knew the enemy He knew it s the Devil offering So the option to accept or deny was clear 2 He knew the word Jesus didn t argue with the Devil He just quoted scripture And the Devil didn t try to convince him otherwise 3 He knew who He was When we realize and accept our identity in Christ we never need to settle for less than best One of the most challenging for Christians is to determine between good better and best Most us of can identify a wrong choice But when we need to decide between good better and best it s best to start with knowing who is offering Oh after the Devil retreated temporarily he is lying in wait for another opportunity Mrs Veronica Boyd There is a prayer box in the office for prayer requests Meet us next Tuesday in the extended day room at 8 40 am Calvary Academy is a private Christian school with the mission of challenging its students to know Christ as Lord teaching them to know and apply biblical truth and training them to pursue academic excellence in order that they may engage and transform their world for Jesus Christ
