THE FLUCUATING KORBAN 5:28 PM March 11, 2022 ח ‘פשת ב רדא‘ב ארקיו תשרפ Reminder: March 13 move the clock forward one hour. March 16 – Taanis Esther, special dismissal schedule for grades 5-8G and 6-8B March 17-18 - Purim/Shushan Purim, no classes all grades March 25 - late Friday dismissal begins. Dear Parents, Among the different karbanos mentioned in this week’s Parsha is the דרויו הלוע ןברק, the fluctuating korban. The unique aspect of this korban is that it varies with the financial wherewithal of the individual. A wealthy person is required to offer a sheep or a goat. Someone of lesser means can bring doves. A poverty-stricken individual can suffice with a meal-offering of flour and oil. The Gemara in ח״כ תותירכ indicates that should someone who can afford a sheep bring a bird or meal-offering, he has not fulfilled his obligation and is not forgiven for his sin. The Chofetz Chaim extrapolates from here that although there is no Beis HaMikdash today and we do not have the ability to bring karbanos, tzedakah serves as a replacement. One’s level of giving needs to be commensurate with the amount of blessing that Hashem has showered him. A wealthy person cannot be satisfied with giving like his middle-class neighbor. He must give according to his wealth. The Chinuch, in ג״כק הוצמ discusses a further point. If a poor man brings a rich man’s korban he has also not discharged his obligation. Just like the rich man cannot bring a poor man’s korban, the opposite holds true. Why? Since the Torah pities the poor man and permits him to fulfill his chiyuv with flour, it is not appropriate that he strains himself to bring more than he can afford. This has great relevance today. While our generation has enjoyed greater prosperity and a higher standard of living, many people still struggle. From the korban הלועדרויו we learn that one should live within his means, not beyond them. !תבש טוג Rabbi Ochs The boys in 4B collectively reviewed Mishnayos from Rosh Hashanah which they recently completed, over 8000(!) times. Mazel Tov to the boys who completed the entire chazara program! The boys were treated to a trip to Get Air Trampoline Park and had a great time. There was tremendous achdus and the boys truly made a wonderful kiddush Hashem! Thank you Mrs. Klompas for driving and chaperoning. Thank you Rabbi Selevan for organizing the trip. Before vacation we shared pictures form the skating trip at the Warrior Arena. We inadvertently missed thanking the Rosmarin Family for their very generous sponsorship of the trip. We would also like to acknowledge all the people who took time out to drive students to and from the arena: the Loketch, Klompas, Wolf, Rosmarin, Benmergui, and Septimus families. Also, thank you to Mr. Casey, Rabbi Benmergui and Mr. Thumin, for skating with the students, and to Mr. Berman for supervising the students. The girl in 4G learned about how Viking women did a lot of weaving, so they painted Scandinavian landscapes and learned how to do a little weaving themselves. PreK acted out the Purim story. Kinderlach learned it really well! In the afternoon, the students celebrated the letter P with a pizza lunch followed by a pajama party! Thank you Morah Kagan! K-1 students are very busy, they had a scavenger hunt outside. Each child had to read a nekudah trail. If they read it correctly they got the hint for the next clue. After the children collected all the clues, they worked together to make their pieces into a puzzle. Then they read each or the pieces of the nekudah trail Continued on page 2

continued Bulletin Board together as a class. The students also enjoyed a kriah game in the senior Bais Yaakov classroom, when 12th graders switched classrooms with them last Friday as part of Chodesh Adar fun. For letter V week, K-2 painted Vincent van Gogh’s The Starry Night. We have really great artists in class! The children also enjoyed a trip to the park on a beautiful, almost spring, day. 1G students learned all Hebrew script letters! They celebrated this milestone with a siyum. Thank you Mrs. Youshei! On Thursday, accompanied by festive Purim music and lots of Ruach, the girls in grades 1-8 spent quality time preparing their booths for the upcoming Purim carnival.
