Mothers Agaisnt Drunk Driving

                    Est: September 5,1980

M.A.D.D.'s founder, Candace Lightner, created the agency in Fair Oaks, California after her daughter Cari was killed by a drunk driver. She worked hard to get new laws in place and prevent this from happening to someone else.

The Beginning

Mission Statement

Mothers Against Drunk Driving share the mission to end driving under the influence, combat underage drinking, and support those who have been affected by those who do drive under the influence.

In 1984, M.A.D.D. helped to raise the minimum drinking age to 21. 2004 was the year that M.A.D.D. finally got the BAC to .08 from its previous .15. As of last year half of the country now has ignition interlock laws for all drunk-driving offenders. The biggest accomplishment made by M.A.D.D. would be the the 330,000 lives saved because of their agency.
