HOPES ProgramPersonal TestimonyDanielle enrolled in LSI’s HOPES program at 18 yearsold, 21 weeks pregnant with her first child. At first, shelived with her supportive mother, who planned to helpwith baby essentials and childcare. However, as Daniellebuilt trust with her LSI Family Support Worker, Kellie, she opened up about the increasingly toxic environmentat home—driven by her mother’s struggles with bipolardisorder and alcoholism. Frequent arguments made itclear that Danielle needed a safer, more stable place toprepare for her baby’s arrival. With Kellie’s support, Danielle’s grandmother agreed toprovide temporary housing while Danielle applied forhousing assistance. Thanks to community resources likeMary’s Choice and LSI, she was able to gather essentialbaby supplies. Just before Thanksgiving, Danielle gavebirth to a healthy baby boy, Devon. Kellie continuedoffering guidance through weekly home visits, coveringimportant topics such as safe sleep, postpartum care, and breastfeeding. By early December, Danielle movedinto her own apartment, with help from family andfriends to furnish her new home. With Kellie’s help, shealso successfully secured SNAP and FIP benefits, creating a more stable foundation for her and her son.Over the past three months, Danielle has maderemarkable progress. Living independently has evenhelped improve her relationship with her mother, whonow occasionally helps with transportation. Whilesingle parenthood can feel isolating at times, Danielleremains determined to build a loving, stable home forDevon, who is healthy and developing right on track. Her current goals include finding quality childcare, securing employment, and eventually purchasing avehicle to further support her family’s independence.Danielle’s journey underscores the transformativepower of LSI’s HOPES program in empowering youngparents. We are grateful for the opportunity to walkalongside her as she creates a brighter, more promisingfuture for herself and her son.
