Preempt the trend. End of year challenges are predictable, let’s plan for it.Make it a refresher. Take time to re-teach your expectations as a proactive refresher, instead of a frustrated response.Reassure your students. Reassure your students you will maintain your expectations and can count on you for consistency.Don't make assumptions. Be careful not to skim over your expectations. Be highly specific as if it’s the first week of school. Pick up the pace. Maintain the challenge, rigor, and pace of yourclassroom to communicate that you are still focused on academics. Giving students voice and choice can motivate them to show what they havelearned. Sometimes having too much freedom in that choice is overwhelming. Ifyou have ever tried a choice board before, you may have experienced students’confusion with having too many new types of activities to choose from. Oneoption is to try a Progressive Choice Board. The first time you use theprogressive choice board in class, give a few options. These might be things youhave already done as a whole class assignment, so students know how to use thetechnology involved and understand the process. Click here for an exampleprogressive choice board, and click here to read more about Progressive ChoiceBoard from Ditch That Textbook. There are different options to include and how tosuccessfully introduce new activities to your choice boards.

This is a small and mighty department with nine people serving the entire MPSdistrict. Did you know that I support CPR/First Aid certifications for requiredstaff (this is about 300-400 people annually) and fulfill many other "duties asassigned"!Leadership & LearningMeet Shelly MannLeadership & Learning SpecialistOur departmentmaximizes staffpotential and impactsstudent achievementthrough systems ofsupport that fostercontinuous personal, building and districtgrowth. Specifically, weprovide guidance for thestrategic plan, leadership, induction, professional learning, instructional coaching, and staff &administratorevaluation. If I found $20, I would consider it my '4-leaf clover'because I really don't have “winner” luck. I woulddefinitely jump up and down like it was a milliondollars.A current non-education goal is to get my house updates done, it's anever ending process.I am passionate about family & friends and helping them.Words that describe me are ...
