The Service to Services to Service PROFILES IN SERVICE Our Lord and Savior serves as the greatest example of leadership through service The Gospel of John Ch 13 records the event in which Christ humbles himself in doing the task of a servant and washing the feet of his disciples The mission of Living Word Lutheran High School is to provide quality Christian education for lifelong leadership and service in God s kingdom We exist to train the next generation of servant leaders using Christ as our example This section will highlight examples of servant leaders in our community that will serve to inspire others to lifelong leadership and service in God s kingdom A year ago LWLHS was blessed to add to its teaching staff but not in the usual way There was no combing through teacher candidates from Concordia or securing a cross disciplinary educator who could handle teaching some business courses Instead LW was blessed to bring in a veteran of the United States Army National Guard as well as a veteran of the banking industry to grow and enhance our Business Education department Perhaps as atypical as his path to LW is his mode of transportation to school there s only one white Corvette convertible in the teachers parking lot Mike Dosland a member of Living Word Lutheran Church expressed interest in serving as teacher at LWLHS nearly two years ago as he contemplated a career shift after 35 years in the banking business Mr Dosland is now in his second year at LWLHS teaching Personal Finance Economics and Accounting Mr Dosland describes his paths of service and blessed life very simply It s all due to God s favor and providence Mike served in the United States Army National Guard for 26 years including one deployment to Iraq He retired from the service as a Lieutenant Colonel LTC Infantry Mr Dosland or Captain America as we call him around LWLHS kept a day job too When he wasn t on the frontiers of freedom Mike was on the frontiers of finance Whether protecting our freedoms or preserving our funds Mike has a servant heart After spending 35 years in the banking industry Mike seized the opportunity to retire from his role as Chief Financial Officer of Bank Mutual when it was acquired by Associated Bank It was at this time that the idea of turning the page to his next chapter of service became a reality teaching at Living Word Not a complete novice to teaching Mr Dosland had previously served as an adjunct professor in the Business schools at both UW Lacrosse and Lakeland College Mike brings a great balance of finance industry acumen passion for serving Chirst and of course a little military discipline to the classroom We are thrilled to have Mr Dosland on staff His expertise servant attitude and willingness to learn from some of LW s finest educators are a tremendous blessing to our students Mr Dosland we salute you
