I am delighted to offer some words of introduction to Limavady High School, a pioneering school which has developed an admirable reputation over recent years for many reasons.First, Limavady High School is a school which places its pupils at the centre of everything it does, valuing each child as an individual and seeking to maximise their potential for learning, Limavady High SchoolIrish Green StreetLimavadyCounty LondonderryBT49 9ANTelephone: 028 777 62526Email: info@limavadyhigh.limavady.ni.sch.ukWebsite: limavadyhigh.co.ukFacebook: facebook.com/limavadyhighTwitter: twitter.com/limavadyhighInstagram: instagram.com/limavadyhighLeadership TeamDr D. achievement and progression. Through my interactions with the school leadership team in recent years, I have always been impressed by their commitment to driving evidence-informed change, using data where appropriate to identify and meet individual pupil needs. This has resulted in a school which seeks to bring the very best out of every child who walks through its doors.Second, this record of success is achieved through an acknowledgement that schools are embedded in and dependent on their local communities. My experience of Limavady High School has shown me a school where teachers recognise the importance of family, and value the knowledge and understanding that parents, as equal partners in the learning journey, have of their children. In seeking to bring the very best out of children, this is a school which works hard to forge meaningful links with other local schools, local businesses, community and faith organisations. This place-based approach to learning is rooted in mutual respect.Third, I believe that pastoral relationships are at the very heart of effective teaching, and that positive pastoral relationships among all members of the school community are the bedrock on which success is built. In 2021 Limavady High School won Pastoral School of the Year awarded by the National Association for Pastoral Care in Education. As one of the judges in that competition, I can vouch for the quality of the school’s pastoral approach which was rightly recognised ahead of many other strong entries from across the UK.Finally, at their very best, schools are busy, vibrant, inclusive communities where children are empowered to succeed but where they are also safe, happy and valued as individuals. This is exactly what you will find at Limavady High School.Dr Noel PurdyDirector of Research and Scholarship, Stranmillis University College, Belfast.

STEM CentreRobert Year 12Engineering Student“It was really interesting to hear about the training and apprenticeship opportunities available at Sensata”S.T.E.M. plays a crucial role in the modern world we live in. With new technologies continually emerging, and the demand for trades people at a high, the job opportunities around Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths are greater now than they have ever been. Our aim within the Technology and Design Department is to equip and empower all our pupils by offering them a range of opportunities to engage in skills-based activities, from woodworking projects to computer aided design/manufacture, such as 3D Printing and Laser Cutting. With our new state-of-the-art S.T.E.M. Centre, we are able to offer a range of STEM subjects at KS4/5 from Carpentry and Joinery to Graphic Design, Product Design and Engineering. This allows pupils to access a range of pathways to follow into further education and beyond. Investors in Pupils is a simple concept that builds on the principles of Investors in People; to empower all pupils, increase motivation and contribute to raising achievement across the Key Stages. LHS has achieved this nationally recognised and prestigious Investors in Pupils award. After completing the two-year programme, our students have a more in-depth knowledge and understanding about their school, the jobs of everyone in it and how the school manages financial resources. It supports pupils in setting targets for their tutor group and for themselves while recognising the importance of the various roles and responsibilities of ALL staff involved in their education – from the canteen staff to the governors, the cleaning staff and caretakers to the principal and governors.Everyone is valued and has an important role to play in our pupils’ education. Our pupils also learn how they can contribute and make a difference to their school. Our KS3/4 pupils have created a mission statement for their tutor groups, as well as a tutor group target and a personal target, specific to each unique student.Student CouncilStudent Council

PUPIL VOICEWe place a high value on the views and opinions of our students, and our Student Council is an excellent example of a pupil elected body that brings forward the views of students to staff and the Senior Leadership Team.To give you some examples of real-life impacts Pupil Voice has had, our Student Council have successfully brought about change and improvements in a number of areas. They were consulted on and had a great deal of input on the new Achievement Point Reward systems. Pupil VoicePupil VoiceStudent Council also expressed a need for more drinking fountains and water refill stations around the school. These were installed in Sept 2022. In June 2022 we held our first ever Year 8 Student Takeover Day where students applied for jobs to work alongside teachers, the Principal and VPs, Heads of Year, canteen staff, school caretakers, and office staff. This day was a huge success, and we are planning to roll this out to more year groups in 2024!

I remember when I joined Limavady High School in 2017 and was nervous about what lay ahead over the next 7-years. Over the past 7-years, I have gained and developed confidences as well as other skills and qualities. I have been able to achieve 9 GCSEs and am currently working on achieving 3 A-Levels. This would not have been possible without the support of all my teachers andstaff at LHS.I was honoured to be appointed Head Boy and have enjoyed the role this year. All my experiences at LHS have helped me become the person I am today. Reece DohertyI can barely remember the shy 11-year-old who arrived at Limavady High School in 2017. LHS has offered me so many opportunities. I have enjoyed sports, such as netball and hockey, Scripture Union and Youth Club to name a few.I have thrown myself into Duke of Edinburgh’s Award activities, having achieved Bronze and Silver, and I am currently working towards myGold award. The teachers and staff have been so supportive at every stage of my journey-through GCSEs, now studying A-Levels and applying for university.I was honoured to be named Head Girl and I’m proud to be part of the LHS family.Caitlyn MarkeyHead Girl Head Boy
