This multimodal project explores a photographic accident a light leak

A light leak is an opening in the camera a small hole or gap where the light goes in causing it to burn the surface of the lm

This project began as a 35mm lm photography attempt to document the presence of waste in the town of Tabarka in Tunisia by the country s Northwestern border The materiality of waste its existence everywhere has become a medium to understand one s position by a border meaning at the margins

waste and nature are entangled

When I developed my photographs they all had a leak a line a ray of light

A leak is an opening to reconstruct the photograph

The leak is isolated Revealing the photographer

Maybe I should remove the leak

What emerges when the leak is cropped out Grass a dead tree waste from construction rocks plants a city the sea the sky

What s leftover as usual waste

In colonial postcards images are captioned general view or overview of Tabarka

The general view is unsettled by the leak
