Covenant Survey Results During the December MPOA Board meeting the Covenant Team reported on the results of the recent electronic Covenant Survey For those new to the community our current Declaration of Covenants was written over 20 years ago by the original developer Bay Colony Gateway Inc It has not been updated since then A virtually insurmountable hurdle to amending the Declaration is any change must be approved by at least 2 3 of all members and if a member does not vote that is counted as a No vote At the last two annual meetings a proposal to change the voting threshold to 2 3 of actual votes cast was voted on but failed each time Some highlights of the survey were 1 458 residents responded 2 81 said the Declaration should be updated 3 52 said that two thirds of all votes actually cast following a successful quorum would be an acceptable number of YES votes to amend the Declaration 4 29 favored a simple majority of all members 5 18 said keep the threshold as 2 3 of all members Another presentation on the survey will be made at the Annual Meeting on January 24 2023 After the Annual Meeting a Town Hall meeting will be scheduled to provide Members an opportunity to engage in more discussion about the survey results and about amending the Declaration Meanwhile any interested resident is encouraged to send their questions and thoughts directly to Bruce Ambrose the Chair of the Covenant Team at MPOAdirector waterlefefl com or meet with him to discuss it in person 6 LEFE LIFE JANUARY 2023 LEFE LIFE JANUARY 2023 7

COMMITTEE UPDATES CDD GOLF CLUB Here is the latest LANDSCAPE COMMITTEE The Landscape Committee plans to start some of the work for their projects list next month The first project they are looking to have completed will be the renovation of the Big Bass Place and Rainbow Court cul de sacs They will remove the current philodendron in the cul de sacs and replace them with a hedge of cocoplum The current palms in those cul de sacs will remain the same however below is a picture of a similar cul de sac that was renovated last year with the cocoplum Over time the Landscape Committee plans to renovate all the cul de sacs with philodendron in the community with hopes of doing 2 per fiscal year CAPITAL PLANNING COMMITTEE The Capital Planning Committee has continued to work with the construction manager and staff to finalize plans while keeping on the current schedule The committee has looked into roofing options design options for the outside of the building to help build focal points and HVAC Engineering plans are almost complete and the committee hopes to have them completed soon SAFETY COMMITTEE The Safety Committee did not have a meeting in December but staff is continuing to monitor the radar sign data on Portside Terrace At January s meeting the committee will be analyzing the data and begin to decide where the next location will be for the sign 22 LEFE LIFE JANUARY 2023 LEFE LIFE JANUARY 2023 23
IN THE SPOTLIGHT WRITTEN BY JACK RITCHIE AROUND THE NEIGHBORHOOD FEATURING YOUR NEIGHBORS JOEY CAREN MCGRANE It s not hard to tell they re from the New England area based on their distinct accents Joey is from Boston and Caren is from Long Island In fact a survey of Waterlefe s approx 1 300 residents found that only one resident Tommy Walters of Mississippi has an even more regional accent than Joey Meanwhile it s the 2nd marriage for both with a total of 10 kids grandkids Joey says To the kids they re one big happy family After serving 3 years in the US Marine Corp Joey worked in the family owned wine business importing and exporting wines from around the world He then spent the rest of his career interviewing sports stars as a Golf Show host having a role on TV in the Tampa St Pete Area He then merged a position as Golf Show Host with a comedy golf show While in the comedy business Joey had the chance to work directly or indirectly with worldwide celebrities such as Jerry Seinfeld Johnny Carson and Steve Wright Joey played a key role in the Florida Golf Show only broadest on Tampa s local ABC channel then Joey branched out to radio with a show called I m Teed Off Show It was a light hearted look at the world of golf via interviews with Pro golfers plus other topics on Joey s mind Joey was thrilled to have met and interviewed celebrities to include Jack Nicklaus Arnie Palmer Gary Player and Tiger Woods see photo Joey had the opportunity to share a lot of laughs with these stars Caren and Joey who also goes by Joe moved to Florida in 1989 and then to Waterlefe in 2020 They are both golfers but Joey also likes pickle ball while Caren likes dining out and boating Caren and Joey your energy and sense of humor are welcome in Waterlefe even your New England accents are welcome 24 LEFE LIFE JANUARY 2023 Know a neighbor with an interesting story to tell NOMINATE THEM Contact LKotik WaterlefeFL com
