GENERAL MANAGEMENT Dear Members As you read this your River Club dining staff has either taken a much needed vacation or turned into renovation experts because there s plenty to do Your MPOA staff is still hard at work and welcomes you to stop by our offices downstairs if you have any questions or need assistance The River Club s bar has new lighting new acoustical panels a fresh coat of paint a new back splash walls removed and new flooring Now we move onto the main dining room and kitchen For your safety and those working to put the final touches to get the Bar back together and begin the main dining room and kitchen refresh from July 31 until September 18 the front doors to the River Club will remain locked the upstairs will be inaccessible and all dining including take out and the Tiki Bar will be closed until project completion We will not offer tours to realtors during this time The library door across from the fitness center will be locked If you would like access to the library please see a staff member in the MPOA offices and they will be happy to escort you during business hours The Fitness Center Pool and Fitness Studio Classes remain open The Tiki Bar will reopen on September 23 Please join me in congratulating Leah Canna for being our second quarter employee of the quarter As our Service Director Leah surpassed all expectations in the training and final farewell of our international staff She looks forward to welcoming a new team on October 1 including some familiar faces as Christa and Kayla return two new team members for service and two new internationals for our culinary team Our receptionist will be back later this month to take your September reservations We anticipate reopening for dining on Wednesday September 20 It s not too early to consider a commemorative paver as a Holiday gift on our Walk of Fame Two new pavers have been added recently enjoy them as you visit the Pointe Stay cool and see you soon Susan Greene MPOA General Manager COO WATERLEFE GOLF RIVER CLUB LEFE LIFE AUGUST SEPTEMBER 2023 PAGE 3

CDD GOLF UPDATES Committee News LANDSCAPE COMMITTEE The summer mix of annuals have been installed and are starting to grow in nicely There is also a dead palm in the roundabout at Winding Stream Fish Hook Cove and Waterlefe Blvd This palm will be getting replaced in August The Landscape Committee has been brainstorming their project ideas for the upcoming fiscal year starting in October and will begin work shortly after for any enhancements Some of the projects from this year included enhancing two cul de sacs by removing philodendron and replacing with a cocoplum hedge enhancing the berm on Winding Stream between Rainbow Court and the back gate and phase two of oak trimming in the community SAFETY COMMITTEE The radar sign from Portside Terrace has been relocated to Foggy Morn and is now collecting speeding data This data will be analyzed overtime by the committee to determine if any permanent changes need to be made After sufficient data has been collected the committee will begin to look where to place the sign next in the community GOLF COMMITTEE The Golf Committee has continued to work with staff as they prepare the upcoming fiscal year s budget Maintenance staff is continuing to monitor the course as the greens and tee boxes have been growing in As a reminder progress photos are being updated on the website for members and residents to follow along WATERLEFE GOLF RIVER CLUB LEFE LIFE AUGUST SEPTEMBER 2023 PAGE 23

CDD GOLF UPDATES Safety Committee Tip of the Month Beware of Wildlife Waterlefe is known for its many nature trails and preserves in the community but there is also a plethora of natural wildlife in the community as well While some may enjoy watching the wildlife it is important to always be safe and keep your distance When walking the community please make sure that you do not walk near the ponds with children animals or to look for golf balls as gators have been spotted in the ponds When walking dogs make sure that they are always kept on a leash and if you are walking the nature trails make sure you stay on the paths Alligators have been known to move between ponds in the evening so if you are out walking during this time make sure you stay aware of your surroundings especially when walking near ponds Gators snakes and the occasional bobcat are among the wildlife that you should keep a safe distance from as they can be aggressive Lastly if you have guests visiting who are not familiar with the area or wildlife be sure to let them know to be cautious and always keep an eye out when walking around If you see wildlife like gators in the ponds be sure to report them to the MPOA PAGE 24 LEFE LIFE AUGUST SEPTEMBER 2023 WATERLEFE GOLF RIVER CLUB

AROUND THE NEIGHBORHOOD In the Spotlight Featuring Your Neighbors PAULINE FRANKLYN DICKSON Pauline and Franklyn Dickson met at the 1964 World s Fair held in Queens New York Pauline had been selected to represent England at the Johnson s Wax pavilion After a long distance romance they were married in England two years later The newly married couple then began a 10 month honeymoon in Bangkok Thailand where Franklyn had been sent by Fairleigh Dickinson University as the first Exchange Professor to Bangkok College now Bangkok University Pauline and Franklyn returned to New Jersey where Franklyn taught for several years as a Professor of Marketing Franklyn then joined Ray Bloch Productions Inc named for the famous orchestra leader of the Ed Sullivan and Jackie Gleason television shows Using his marketing skills Franklyn built the Company into a major producer of corporate and association meetings Winning many industry awards including an Emmy Franklyn sold the business in 1996 and retired shortly thereafter Pauline remained at home building the family with a daughter and two sons Franklyn has often said he would not have been successful without the stable home life Pauline provided In 2002 the couple built their dream house on Maritime Court in Waterlefe and remained snow birds until 2020 when they became full time residents In 2009 Franklyn became President of the Waterlefe Master Property Owner s Association MPOA During his administration the bar in the River Club was moved from the dining room to its present location the building was expanded to accommodate the lower level staff offices and the Bistro Room the exercise room was increased by one third Most importantly the contentious lawsuit with several Shores residents was favorably settled Also serving the Waterlefe community Pauline was an active member of the Communications Committee researching and writing several articles about Waterlefe and the area and she also served as President of the Waterlefe Women s Golf Association She now busies herself with her artistic painting and golf where she frequently beats her husband PAGE 26 LEFE LIFE AUGUST SEPTEMBER 2023 WATERLEFE GOLF RIVER CLUB
