about meI’m a lifelong animal lover and photographer based outside Chicago, Illinois.I spent my formative years working in any animal field that I could find andgrew up riding horses with dreams of being a professional equestrian. The horse is a deep-rooted beacon connecting me back to my photographerfather. After he lost his battle with cancer, my mother got me into riding, and many (manyyyyy) years later, the two paths aligned. If you are head over heels for your trusty steed and worship the ground theytrot on; then you have come to the right place.
The Equestrians of Color Photography Project (EOCP) was created to amplify the voices ofequestrians of color who have stories they want to share with our community. First and foremost, each of us is an ally before a photographer and is here to listen, learn, and evolve from the storiesthat are shared with us.We aim to provide a safe space for equestrians of color to feel welcomed and comfortable in front ofour camera. Through a group blog, we will strive to shed light on challenging, uplifting, andinspirational stories of Equestrians of Color. By raising awareness and supporting an inclusive and diverse equestrian community, together wewill bring positive and developmental change to our industry on a global scale. FAQ's
What if the weather is bad?Depending on the forecast, I will be in touch with you if there looks to be severeor questionable weather (heavy rain, extreme temps, storms) Keep in mind thatovercast days provide a soft, even light. What should I wear?I will tell you what NOT to wear first. Avoid fluorescents, large brand letters andlogos. I will send a style guide when you book a session to help you with ideas. What if my horse is naughty?I always recommend your horse be worked or longed the day of your shoot. Atired horse is a (more) cooperative horse! If your session falls around feeding time,I would suggest feeding them a light snack. I would also suggest having a friendor family member join the shoot to help out.Does my horse have to be clean?YES! Believe it or not, I have been asked this question before. Remember yoursession is an investment and you want your horse looking their finest! Irecommend your horse be show-prepped clean. Bathed, dry, show sheen andhoof polish. No green stains, mud crusts or spots. Braids will always elevate thelook. If you want to clip your horse, I would suggest clipping at least 2 weeksbefore your session if you want their true coat color to be visible. What if my barn is ugly? Can you photoshop this?Do you offer payment plans?Chances are, your barn and surrounding areas are probably not as bad as youthink! I use specific lenses that compress and soften distracting backgrounds. I'mtypically more concerned with finding the best light on the property. Ah, yes. The old "you can just photoshop that, right?" Wrong! However, I do include light retouching in my regular editing work. Lightretouching would include: blemishes, small marks or scars, small hair patches, etc. If an image requires further reconstructive work (ex: thinning, smoothing, mouth or ear replacements) then they will incur an additional fee depending onthe nature of the request. Yes I do offer interest-free payment options. Photos will not be edited until finalpayment is received. Gift cards are also available to use towards sessions.
