The audience experience is anothercritical differentiator between Broadwayand film. Attending a Broadway show isoften viewed as a communal event wherethe audience shares in the excitement andemotions of the performance. Thiscollective experience can enhance thestory's impact, as the audience's laughter, applause, or even silence can influence theperformance. In contrast, watching a movietends to be a more personal experience, asviewers can enjoy films in the comfort oftheir own homes or a traditional theatersetting. Movies offer the convenience of on-demand viewing, allowing audiences tochoose when and where they watch. Thisaccessibility has revolutionized how storiesare consumed, expanding the reach ofcinematic narratives beyond the confines ofa theater.Entertainment page 4 The difference between Broadwayshows and movies can be highlightedthrough specific examples like "Dear EvanHansen," "Mamma Mia!," and"Beetlejuice." While both forms ofentertainment aim to tell engaging storiesand connect with audiences, they do sothrough different mediums, styles, andexperiences. Broadway shows are liveperformances in theaters, characterized bytheir immediate and interactive nature. Theexperience of attending a Broadway show isunique because it unfolds in real time, withaudiences sharing the atmosphere andenergy of a live performance. Thisimmediacy connects the performers and theaudience, enhancing the story's emotionalimpact. In musicals like "Mamma Mia!,"the actors engage with the audience throughmusic and dance, creating an immersiveexperience that is difficult to replicate onscreen. The performers often feed off theaudience's energy, making each performancedistinct and tailored to that moment.Broadway Shows vs. MoviesBy Nya Zlydaszyk The production elements of Broadway showsand movies also differ significantly. In livetheater, the set design and staging mustaccommodate the limitations of the physicalstage. Broadway productions often utilizeinnovative staging techniques and elaboratecostumes, creating a visually stunning experiencethat highlights the talents of the performers. Therapid costume changes and live musicalperformances contribute to a sense ofspontaneity and excitement that can only comefrom a live show. Conversely, movies benefitfrom the ability to shoot in various locations, utilizing real-world settings or constructed sets totell their stories. The cinematography in filmsallows for a depth of visual storytelling that canimmerse viewers in the narrative. Movies are produced and edited for apolished final product. They are capturedthrough the lens of a camera, allowing forvarious angles, close-ups, and specialeffects that can elevate the storytelling. This cinematic approach enablesfilmmakers to create a visually richnarrative, incorporating elements likeCGI, elaborate set designs, and complexcamera work. The ability to edit scenes inpost-production allows filmmakers tocraft a seamless narrative, enhancing thestorytelling experience through pacingand visual effects. Another key difference lies in howstories are told within these two mediums.Broadway shows often rely heavily onmusic and live performances to conveyemotions and advance the plot. Inmusicals, songs become essentialstorytelling tools as they encapsulatecharacters' feelings and motivations. When examining specific works like"Dear Evan Hansen," the context of theirproduction plays a crucial role inunderstanding their impact. If theseworks are adaptations of stage plays ororiginal productions, their storytellingmethods, character development, andoverall themes may vary based onwhether they are presented live or onscreen. For example, if "Hansen" is amusical, its stage version would focus onlive performance dynamics, while a filmadaptation would likely emphasizecinematic techniques to reach a broaderaudience.

Features page 5 Recently Sean “P. Diddy” Combs has captivated publicattention due to serious allegations from multiple plaintiffs. Hehas faced various lawsuits, primarily centered on accusations ofsexual misconduct, abuse, and the organization of “sex-trafficking parties” known as “Diddy parties” involvingunderage women and drugs. P. Diddy is an American rapper, record producer, and recordexecutive who has been influential in the music industry since theearly 1990s. He started his career as an intern at UptownRecords. He quickly gained fame as a producer and founded hisown label, Bad Boy Entertainment, which launched the careersof several major artists, including The Notorious B.I.G. andFaith Evans. Over the years, Diddy has expanded his fame intofashion, beverages, and television, making him one of thewealthiest figures in the entertainment industry. The case surrounding Sean Diddy gained a lot of attention inrecent months and there have been claims from former industryassociates suggesting that Jay-Z and Beyonce may have been apart of these Diddy Parties. Jay-Z and Diddy have had aprofessional relationship for decades, which has raised manyquestions given Diddy’s controversial reputation. Theseconnections, however, are currently uncertain, because Jay-Z hasbuilt a reputation for remaining distant from scandals andfocused on his business ventures. With his strategic silence, Jay-Zhas largely avoided controversy, but critics argue that silencecould imply suspicion. Many other celebrities have been said to be involved in and/orattended these parties including Kanye, J. Lo, Justin Bieber, andeven LeBron James. Due to the allegations of abuse at some ofthese private events, several celebrities have distanced themselvesfrom him. LeBron James, for example, who once publiclypraised Diddy, has yet to address these scandals. His silence, among others, drew criticism, especially from those supportingwomen’s rights. Another allegation surrounding P. Diddy is sexual assaultagainst minors. Diddy currently awaits trial on multiple sextrafficking charges and more allegations of abuse. More than100 accusers 25 of whom were minors at the time, reportedlycame forward. During a press conference on October 1st, TonyBuzbee told the reporter, “The youngest victim at the time of theoccurrence was 9 years old. We have an individual who was 14years old. We have one who was 15.” The minors haven't filedlawsuits, so allegations haven't been made public yet, but theirattorney is reporting that there are 25 minor victims, with theyoungest being 9 years old. P. Diddy’s legal team has strongly denied the allegations, arguing that the claims are exaggerated or fabricated. A lawyerfor Jay-Z claimed that talk show host Piers Morgan took anunusual step of editing an interview with a guest who claimedthat Jay-Z and Beyonce are engaged in potential criminalbehavior in line with the allegations against Diddy. As this caseunfolds, it attracts attention not only for the seriousness of theallegations but also for the celebrity status of those involved. This case has caused many rumors on social platforms, especially on TikTok. People on TikTok are looking closely atlyrics from other artists who are talking about Diddy’s actions.Jay Z’s song “She Knows”, for example, is said to be referencingthe sudden deaths of Aaliyah, Left Eye, and Michael Jackson. Many think that Jay Z and Beyonce had to do with their deathsbecause they feared that they would become more successfulthan her. There is also talk of conspiracy theories including othercelebrities such as Kanye and Taylor Swift. Social Media enthusiasts believe that the incident at the 2009MTV VMAs between Taylor Swift and Kanye West was actuallyKanye trying to turn the attention away from Taylor to Beyonce to “saveher” so they wouldn’t meet a sudden mysteriousuntimely death. Fans of Diddy have expressed a mix of disbeliefand support, often divided along generationallines. Younger audiences, who may be less familiarwith his early career, might view him through thelens of modern discussions on power and privilege, while longtime fans may struggle to believe theallegations with the image, they have long admired. As the Sean Diddy Combs case continues togrow, it stands as a crucial moment in theentertainment industry. While the legal processunfolds, the effect of this case extends beyond thecourtroom, influencing how society views celebrityculture. In the end, the outcome of this case will notonly impact those directly involved but could alsoserve as an encouragement for change within theindustry. Whether Sean Diddy is found guilty orinnocent, the discussions sparked by this case willundoubtedly shape future conversations about thetreatment of individuals in positions of power.Sean Diddy Combs Case: ExplainedImage by: Brandyn SwopesBy: Makayla CastilaHi Paladins! This past June marked twoyears since a significant shift inAmerican law and the majorchanges on a variety of aspectsof society. The Supreme Court'sdecision to overturn Roe v.Wade in June 2022 was alandmark ruling, removing theguaranteed constitutional rightto abortion, put in place 1973. Certain truths...Chandan Khanna/AFP via Getty Images, FILEPensacola News JournalIt's been 2 years, where are we now?By: Alexa DobrevaPolitically, the overturning of Roe v. Wade has intensified thealready harsh debate over abortion rights in the United States. Ithas invigorated both pro-choice and pro-life advocates, leading toincreased activism and advocacy on both sides. The ruling sparkedwidespread discussions about bodily autonomy, women's rights, and the role of government in personal healthcare decisions. Overall, the overturning of Roe v. Wade has ignited intensepolitical and social debates, exposing deep divisions withinAmerican society. The Guttmacher Institute, aresearch and policy organizationspecialized in sexual andreproductive health, has foundthat the number of pregnancy-related deaths in the United Statesstarted to increase since 2022, thefirst year after Roe v. Wade wasoverturned. Reasons for thisincrease are complex, but it isobvious that the lack of access tosafe and legal abortion care playsa substantial role. Women inrestrictive states seeking toterminate pregnancies areresorting to dangerous methods, such as using unprovenmedications. Over the past two years, ithas led to significant legal, healthcare, social, economic, and political changes. As thenation continues to grapplewith the results of this decision, the debate over abortion rightsremains a pivotal issue, shapingthe future of American society. In these past years we havegotten a front-row ticket onseeing the changes thisoverturning has had onhealthcare. Clinics in states withrestrictive laws have had toclose or drastically reduceservices, leading to a shortageof reproductive healthcareoptions. Now facing increasedlegal risks, most physicians andhospitals are not willing to riskthe loss of their medical licensesfor providing health care forpregnant women in need ofabortion procedure. For women, especially in states with restrictiveabortion laws, the impact has been extreme. Economically, the decisionhas placed additional strain onsocial services and healthcaresystems. The increase inunintended pregnancies has ledto higher demands for publicassistance programs, includingMedicaid and food aid.Additionally, the economicburden on families has grown, asthey navigate the costs associatedwith unplanned pregnancies andlong-term expenses that comefrom raising a child.States like Texas, Alabama, and Missouri implementednear-total bans on abortion, severely restricting access toreproductive healthcare. Thesestates often includedprovisions that criminalizedthe procedure, with significantpenalties for both providersand patients. On the oppositeend, states such as California,New York, and Illinois tooksteps to safeguard abortionrights, ensuring that theprocedure remained accessiblewithin their borders. After the overturning of Roe v Wade, the state ofGeorgia implemented it’s 6-week abortion ban,Amber Thurman, a Georgia resident sufferedcomplications from a medication abortion, shetraveled to North Carolina and doctors waited 19hours before preforming surgery (D&C) to removethe fetal tissue which resulted in her turning septicand dying; leaving behind a 6-year-old son. While the reality of warmer winters is daunting, it also serves as awake-up call. It is imperative to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in aneffort to combat global warming. Transitioning to renewable energy, enhancing energy efficiency, and supporting sustainable practices canhelp slow the pace of climate change. By understanding the sciencebehind climate change and recognizing its effects, the public may bemore motivated to act. Small steps, from reducing household waste toadvocating for environmental policies, can collectively contribute to amore sustainable future. The future of "White Winters" is uncertain, but not entirely out ofreach. While climate change continues to redefine the season, ourability to adapt and help offers hope. Through a combination of globalefforts and individual actions, we may yet preserve the essence ofwinter, ensuring it remains a cherished season for generations to come. Will a White Winter still exist in the future?By: Sarah Silig and Anne Tesseo Climate Change, a familiar figure that has been around for far toolong has become the driving force behind warmer winters. The rootcause is primarily fueled by the increasing concentration of greenhousegases in the atmosphere. Global temperatures have continued to risedue to human activities like burning fossil fuels and society's overallreliance on non-renewable practices. The Earth's natural climate isbeing disrupted, affecting generations to come if not stopped.Continuous arctic warming has become more common as we watch theregularly known cold climate shift. The region is warming at over twicethe rate of the rest of the planet, resulting in its ice cover to shrink. Many areas traditionally known for their cold winters are experiencingrecord-breaking warmth, making residents feel like this will continue tobe their new norm if climate change isn't dealt with.Adapting to Warmer Winters: How are People Coping? As winter weather becomes increasingly less predictable, people areadapting to cope with warmer winters. Climate change has affectedmany cooler regions in an ecological sense. For instance, places withski resorts have had to develop innovative solutions to keep theirbusiness afloat. According to National Geographic, in February of thisyear, ski resorts have been using GPS-aided slope grooming to help maintain ski hills. They have alsobeen adapting ski lifts to account for the melted slopes. In regions thatrely on winter sports for recreational income, businesses are investingin snowmaking technology to create artificial snow and maintain thesports despite warmer winters. As the planet continues to struggle with the far-reachingconsequences of climate change, it's hard for the increase of risingtemperature in winter seasons to go unnoticed. Across the globe, theseason that once symbolized the cold, igniting the delight of winterfestivities, filling the air with a certain crispness and blankets of snow,is slowly fading... This is where a recently common question arises: Willa White Winter still exist in the future? As for everyday people, many are adapting their winter activities tothe current predicament. While some families are choosing to travel toareas where they can rely on cold temperatures, many are coming upwith fun indoor alternatives to capture the spirit of the season. Thingslike ice skating on frozen ponds and building snowmen are beingreplaced by indoor ice rinks and winter-themed events. Some familiesare opting for more cozy indoor activities, like baking holiday cookies, hosting game nights, and watching holiday movies, helping maintainthe festive winter atmosphere. What Does This Mean for the Future? If global warming continues at current rates, by 2050, winters willconsist of very few cold days, less rainfall, and an overall shorterseason. The UCAR Center for Science Education predicts that theglobal average temperature will rise about 7.2 degrees during the 21stcentury. This loss of snow will have devastating effects on our ecosystems.Species that rely on cold climates, like polar bears and snowshoe hares, face uncertain futures as their habitats continue to shrink. Similarly, humans in regions dependent on predictable snowfall for agriculture, tourism, and recreation will experience both economic and lifestyledisruptions.Cannot be denied

Page 8 We live in a world saturated with technology, a world whereconnection is just a click away. Yet, ironically, many of us findourselves feeling increasingly isolated, adrift in a sea of digitalnoise. How can this be? How can something designed to bring uscloser push us further apart? One reason is the illusion of connection. Social media, with itscurated feeds and highlight reels, often presents a distorted viewof reality. We see others living what seems to be their best lives, while our own struggles feel magnified in comparison. Thisconstant exposure to “perfect” lives can fuel feelings ofinadequacy and loneliness, making us question our own worthand experiences. Technology enables us to avoid genuine human interaction. Why call a friend when you can send a quick text? Why meet forcoffee when you can video chat? While convenient, these digitalsubstitutes lack the depth and nuance of face-to-face interaction. The warmth of a smile, the comfort of a touch – these are thingstechnology simply cannot replicate. Over time, this lack ofgenuine connection can leave us feeling emotionally starved andalone. Opinions Technology how we feel alone with itBy Sophia Wehener However, it’s important to remember that technology itself is not the villain. It can serve as a valuable resource, but like any tool, it can be used for good orill. We have the power to shape our relationship with technology, to use it inways that enhance our lives rather than detract from them. By being mindful ofour usage, setting boundaries, and prioritizing genuine human connection, wecan mitigate the isolating effects of technology and foster a sense of belongingin our increasingly digital world. Technology isn’t inherently bad, of course. It has the power to connect us inincredible ways, but it’s up to us to use it mindfully. We must make a consciouseffort to put down our devices, look up from our screens, and engage with theworld around us. We need to prioritize face-to-face conversations, nurture ourreal-life relationships, and rediscover the beauty of genuine human connection.Only then can we combat the loneliness that technology so often amplifies. In addition, the constant barrage of information and notifications can beoverwhelming. In our current society, we are constantly bombarded withnews, messages, and updates; leaving little time for quiet reflection andintrospection. This digital overload can lead to a sense of fragmentation, making it difficult to connect with ourselves and the world around us. We’rebecoming so consumed by the external noise that we lose touch with ourinner voice, further deepening the feelings of isolation. The very tools that allow us to chat with someone acrossthe globe can also prevent us from engaging with the personsitting across the table. We become so accustomed to the safetyof our screens, hiding behind carefully crafted online personas, that vulnerability in real life feels terrifying. We collecthundreds of online “friends,” yet lack the intimacy of a single, true confidant. We crave connection but settle for fleetingdigital interactions that leave us feeling empty and alone. OpinionsPage 9Monsters?By Sofia Schafer “Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menedez Story”starring Nicholas Alexander Chavez and CooperKoch is the second season of Ryan Murphy’s Netflixshow “Monster”. This season follows the murders ofJose and Kitty Menedez, committed by their two sonsLyle and Erik. It is told from multiple perspectivesand has raised some controversy in the media lately, even being criticized by the brothers themselves. Themost popular controversy regarding the series is theincestuous fantasy portrayed. There are some scenespeople have found to be disturbing, and RyanMurphy even went as far as to put in a scene ofsomeone speculating an incestuous relationshipbetween the brothers in the show. Erik released astatement on September 19th, the show's release day, accusing Murphy of “bad intent” and saying it was astep backward in not only portraying them and theirstory accurately, but male sexual abuse overall. TheMenedez family also released a statement saying theshow was “riddled with mistruths” and scenes likeLyle doing cocaine and the brothers portrayed havingan incestuous relationship are based on theories byjournalists and cannot be backed by evidence. In conclusion, Lyle and Erik Menedez areeverything but monsters, they are victims ofmonsters. People may contradict thisargument by saying they could’ve just runaway, or they lied about the sexual assault, but this is just simply not true. The moneythey had belonged solely to their parents, and it would’ve been virtually impossiblefor them to take enough money for them torun away and live an even semi-good life. Not to mention their parents would havesent people to find them. Lyle was workingtowards a degree, and they had many thingsthey couldn't afford to just leave behind. Not only have the brothers accused JoseMenedez of sexual assault, but other victimslike Roy Russello have come forward aswell. There is also lots of evidence sayingthe brothers talked to people like familymembers and friends about the abuse beforethe murders even occurred. The murders ofJose and Kitty Menedez were a form of self-defense against countless years of abuse. Wecan only hope the Menedez brothers areable to get the justice they deserve and beset free. The Benefits of Extracurricular Activities for CollegeBy Sinia Grange High school is more than just academics;it is a time for growth, self-discovery, andpreparation for the future. Lyle earned a degree in sociology through theUniversity of California and was even able to have Erikattend his graduation. Both brothers have also startedthe Greenspace Project, which involves inmates inlandscaping and painting murals. They have bothmanaged to stay out of much trouble in jail and as areward for their good behavior, they now live in a“non-designated programming facility” at Donovan. This offers prisoners way more freedom andrehabilitative and educational opportunities. Thesesessions vary from yoga classes, art classes, andstudying a variety of subjects, to joining helpful groupsto address different issues like alcoholism and angermanagement. During the wintertime, most coffee shopsrelease holiday drinks that many people gocrazy for. So, instead of putting in the workand trying drinks from each store, we did itfor you! We’ve tasted a variety of the mostpopular holiday drinks from Starbucks,Dunkin’, and Cali Coffee, these are ourthoughts. Photo by: Ella and Emily PardilloPhoto by: Ella and Emily Pardillo The final drink from Starbuckswas the iced sugar cookie almondmilk latte; this drink sounds like theideal drink to satisfy your holidaydrink craving. Yet to ourdisappointment, this drink is a hit ora miss. We have learned that it alldepends on your baristas. Whenmade well it tastes like a sip ofheaven, with the strong but notoverpowering coffee taste and thefestive red and green sprinkles.Taking into account theinconsistency, we’ve given it a 7/10. Starting at Starbucks, we tried theCran-Merry lemonade drink. Honestly, this drink tasted like a candy medicinemashup. At first, it was sweet, but then itquickly turned tart, leaving a displeasingaftertaste. If you are someone with asweet tooth, this is a definite one to skip.Overall, we rate it as a 4/10. The next drink we tried was the IcedGingerbread Chai, which truly tasted likea gingerbread cookie melting in yourmouth. It had the classic chai taste butinfused with gingerbread spice to createthe perfect holiday blend. The to-die-forgingerbread cold foam is put over the topof the drink, giving it the perfect creamytouch; this drink quickly secured a9.5/10. The second place we tried wasDunkin’, where the first drink wetried was the Peppermint mocha. This drink is a staple for theholidays, but when we tried it thisyear, it was very strong on thepeppermint and didn't have muchof its signature chocolatey taste.Though delicious, considering weare peppermint lovers, this mightnot be for you if you don't prefer astronger peppermint flavor.Altogether, this drink is a 7/10. Another drink we tried was theCookie Butter Cold Brew. This drinkhad a hint of maple, with creamy coldfoam adding to the spicy cookieflavor. This drink isn't sweet, so it isperfect for anyone who doesn't preferoverly sweet drinks. Overall, therating for this drink is 6.5/10.

Sports Page 11Rolling in Style: The Most Epic SPHS Bowling Moments Souths Bowling team is the team that keeps on giving, they’re working hard and playing even harder. During thisyear's bowling season, the SPHS girls' bowling team brokeone of our schools' records, this is the same girls' bowlingteam that made it to states a multitude of times. The girls'team bowled all the way up to first place in the district'scompetition. The attending schools were Cooper City HighSchool, Stoneman Douglas High School, Archbishop HighSchool, Western High School, Hollandale High School, DrKrop High School, and, St. Thomas Aquinas High School. A more recent victory for South’s girl's bowling team ismaking it to the state competition. They traveled toOrlando on the week of Halloween to compete against allthe other schools that qualified. Some thoughts from a few of the bowlers: Reese Metevia says, “The States trip was really fun, we got to have some good team bonding moments with each other. And it madeall the work we had to put into the season feel worth it.” When asked about the experience of making it to States, and if she feels it taughther anything new about the sport Reese states “Yeah, us making it to States taught us that competition isn’t always going to be easywork. We have to be sure to keep a positive attitude while bowling or the teammates start to get in their heads too much and it can affectour bowling. We even learned new cheers from some of the other teams, I’m really excited about getting to chant them next year and havejust as much fun as we did this year.”The Wait is Over: Soccer Season Kicks Into Gear! The varsity girls' soccer team here at South Plantation was extremelysuccessful during last year’s season. The team made it to the regionaltournament which hasn’t been done in the last 9 years. Since the teamwas very successful in the run last year, their schedule is much harderthis upcoming season, as they will be playing against some of the topteams in the state. To continue with their success, the team has set goalsfor the season. They aim to defend their title as district semifinalists andmake it further than they did the previous year by working harder toconnect passes and go towards goal. With the new season coming up, after losing 9 players due to the 2024 graduation class and several injuries, the team is facing severalchallenges, but Senior Captain: Sadie Foster says “This year more than ever is crucial for the team to come together and rise up. By prioritizingand maximizing the amount of time we have, we will thrive and blow past these challenges by sticking together and persevering”. Having apositive attitude can make or break a season, because if your head is held down then you won’t be able to persevere through the challenges youmay face. Soccer is a fast-paced sport that requires quick thinking and quick movement. Being able to know when to make a run or how to move onand off the ball is important, which can be learned through watching other people play. Games are usually filmed, which is an intelligent wayto learn how to play. Coach Cary Mott says “Success is no accident. It is hard work, perseverance, learning, studying, sacrifice, and most of all, love of what you are doing”.
