Three Areas of the Mind Cognitive The Cognitive area of the mind is the one that we are most familiar with because through school it is the one that we are taught to train Our cognitive abilities are measured through IQ Grades intelligence however I believe it is also the most trainable area of the mind You can always find ways to leverage your cognitive skills by finding more effective ways of studying planning researching etc Cognitive Affective Conative COMPLETE PLAN CONFIDENCE Affective The Affective area of the mind is the one that handles our emotions When we are making decisions dealing with other people managing stress we all act in different ways Affectively you tend to make more rash decisions If something feels right or makes us comfortable our affective part of the mind will usually jump in and say do that However the average person feels at least one hundred different changes in their emotions if only for seconds at a time throughout each day Therefore it is not a great idea to make significant decisions in your life when you are relying solely on the affective part of your brain Conative The Conative area of the mind once developed through puberty is the only area that will never change When we are discussing our conative abilities we are referring to our instincts How we instinctively take action how we are instinctively driven how we instinctively prefer to handle information systems risks uncertainties and implementation The reason that this area is so critical to understand is because once we know and trust our instincts it is significantly easier to understand the other two regions of the mind and align a plan of action that will lead us to success in the classroom in career paths in relationships and in life as a whole

Page 4

Kyle s Conative Overview The Conative Profile measures for 4 different action modes How we instinctively Fact Find Follow Thru Quick Start Implement In the following pages you will read descriptions about how each of these zones works individually Still as a whole they work in perfect sync ONLY when we are doing work that we enjoy You may find that in life you will handle tasks or work that pushes you outside of your conative zones it is then that we feel ourselves fall into strain What we learned about you Kyle is that although from a cognitive perspective you may be an excellent fit for Physics the overload of detailed research and lack of innovation was in fact leading you to strain

Page 5

Quick Start is the conative action mode that measures for our inherent comfortability or desire to handle risk taking uncertainties or innovation Your Lead Strength Quick Start The longer someone scores on the quick start spectrum the more likely they are to thrive in conditions that allow them to experiment with things and see what happens That does not mean that you will always be in those type of situations or that people who score shorter will never have to take a risk but what it does tell us is that in those situations someone like you can really save the day Initiating Quick Starts will often find themselves asking the question what if But rather than just thinking about it they are the type of people who want to be the first to say Let s try it In order to find real conative sync as a Quick Start you will need to explore career paths companies majors etc That will give you the freedom to operate in you instinctively inquisitive and experimental mindset

Page 6

Kyle The Quick Start During our first conversation it was evident that there was a disconnect between your current major and what you thought would make you happy The reason for this is that in your life so far you have never taken the time or had the confidence to really let your ability to react innovate create and connect shine through There is a point in almost every instinctively Quick Start s life where they realize that they have the potential to do great things if they just take a chance and go after something that they are passionate about As we discussed in the career matches that came with your profile you may not know precisely what that driving motivator is just yet Still we have narrowed it down to some areas that your quick start can now test for motivation Your Quick Start energy kicks in the moment you commit to something for you this often means jumping all in It can just as easily mean jumping right out when there is something you really don t want to do For your future this means that we want to identify potential career paths that allow you to react to situations and rely on your incredible instincts If you need any further proof that this is your intuitive lead strength just think about the situation that put you into this You jumped into a major without knowing what you would do with it you had a gut feeling that it was not right and disconnected affectively from it Now you are rejuvenated by the possibilities that the new careers and majors give you for your future

Page 7

Accommodating Strength Fact Finder Fact Finder is the conative action mode that shows us how we prefer to handle research and information The longer someone scores on the Fact Finder spectrum the more detail or specifics it takes for them to feel confident in a specific subject matter debate test or any other situation where research is needed People who score longer on the spectrum prefer to take a considerable amount of time researching and fact checking and are often classified as very precise Whereas people on the shorter side of the spectrum prefer to have all of their essential information simplified more often than not to save time or unnecessary energy on topics they think they know enough about When we first started this journey together we talked about the Physics program at UB and the amount of Fact Finding necessary to be successful in the major As a 5 you can handle a lot of specifics if they are critical to your success but when it is information overload you quickly find yourself in strain In the future you will find yourself in conative sync when you can have someone or somewhere to ask for the specifics of what you need to do without having to overload or immerse yourself in facts that may or may not be necessary to know

Page 8

Accommodating Strength Follow Thru Follow Thru is the conative action mode that measures how we do our best work with systems organization planning and directions We all have the ability to organize things or follow instructions our follow thru line tells us how vital or detailed those processes need to be for us to feel confident in the tasks we are completing People on the shorter end of the spectrum prefer to do work when they have the ability to multi task and develop shortcuts to help them complete their objectives The people on the longer end of the spectrum are the ones who are designing the systems directions and processes that organize everything we do What you do better than the people on the more extreme ends of each side of the spectrum is maintain systems directions or processes that you know will work for you and others As we discussed in the meetings your follow thru line may only be an accommodating strength Still it is one that will be very important to your choice of a career path that will bring you fulfillment There are a lot of careers where following the step by step procedures is crucial to your success and advancement For you we must find careers and majors where there is enough direction for you to feel like you know what is expected of you but also give you the freedom to do things your way if you think you could improve on what is already there It is a very unique skill set and one that is more commonly found in people with leadership positions

Page 9

Counteracting Strength Implementor Implementor is the conative action mode that measures how we do our best work from the creative versus the physical perspective For you this spectrum could not be any easier to understand You are on the short side of the spectrum where people do their best work when they are able to envision the work that they are responsible for You have a gift where you can formulate ideas see the possibilities of what could be develop solutions and implement work in your head and then take it to the outlets to get that work done Although you may enjoy doing some physical work the likelihood of you finding your passion for a career that requires you to be hands on is very slim Leave your physical outlets to your hobbies and look for career paths and majors that allow you to be the creative problem solving thinker that you are instinctively The one piece that you will always need to work on see restorative in the affective verbiage is not being too hard on yourself when you don t get the solution to things right away With your conative abilities ideas will continuously be flying around in your head Give yourself the freedom to explore the good ones thoroughly before giving up on them and if they do fail make sure you take time to reflect and learn from the mistakes

Page 10

Affective Verbiage The affective words that you see below are the newest tools in the articulation of your strengths and who you are Affectively you possess all the qualities within the definition of these terms Once you have a thorough understanding of what they mean and when and how you use them in your interactions in work you should be using them whenever you are in interviews conversations or writing about yourself and what makes you great Your reordering of the words was excellent in that without knowing the connection the first three are in perfect sync with your conative profile This shows a really great sense of internal self validation ORIGINAL ORDER KYLE S ORDER 1 Individualization 2 Restorative 3 Communication 4 Developer 5 WOO 1 2 3 4 5 Individualization Communication WOO Restorative Developer
