The Levys* are an Israeli family who found themselves facing unforeseen challenges in San Diego. They were confronted with the uncertainty of nancial support from their family back in Israel due to the tumultuous circumstances prevailing there. Kindness Emergency Support Fund (KESF) played a pivotal role in bridging the gap for families like the Levy’s. KI provided essential support, ranging from assistance with job applications to resume building and crucial nancial assistance."I just got o the phone with my family in Israel, asking about the family assistance I get from them every month towards rent. As we all know, the situation on the ground is very discombobulated, and they don't know if they can help me," shares Mr. Levy. "Thank you so very much for your assistance with my job search and the monthly stipend. It has made all the dierence and has helped us get by each month."Despite their current struggles, the Levy’s are determined to overcome their hardships. Looking toward the future, Mr. Levy expressed "hopefully, in the near future, I'll be able to return it with an additional donation so other people in my shoes will be able to benet from your kindness.” * Names changed to protect privacy of individualSelwyn Isakow, FounderBeverley Pamensky, Director of Member ServicesKaren Lock, Director of kindnessG’MACHTamar Siegel, Director of OperationsDana Glasser, Director of Case ManagementJamie Komen, Director of Resources and Case Management OperationsAlice Tricaso, Case ManagerAvigail Eitan, Intern, Case ManagerThank you! I’ve been with Kindness Initiative for only three months, and over this brief period I’ve seen the powerful work of our case workers and Angel volunteers helping vulnerable Jewish households avert crisis, providing our members resources to food, government programs, health & medical access, housing and so much more. This assistance has expanded now that kindnessG’MACH is part of our family. Karen and her group of dedicated volunteers help everyone feel welcome and provide a safe space for community members to shop with dignity for household items, bedding, toiletries, Judaica, clothing, furniture, and more, all for free. None of this would be possible without the support from you, our donors. You see the need and heartbreaking struggle members of our Jewish community are facing and you step up and say, “not on my watch.” You’ve shown your commitment by giving to our “Adopt-A-kindnessFamily" program, Rent Relief Program, and to our general fund so we can direct your important dollars to where the need is greatest. The Community Studies from 2019 and 2022 both show that the number of Jewish people living just at or below the poverty line continues to increase. From inception, we have helped over 220 households, that’s over 500 individuals, and this number is just the tip of the iceberg. There are approximately 15,000 Jews in need living in San Diego County. Now add to this number, Israelis who have come to San Diego displaced by the war, seeking refuge for their children, and arriving here with few possessions. These Israeli’s do not fall into the conventional communal support structure. They don’t qualify for traditional sources of aid. Kindness Initiative realized their unique situation and formed the “Kindness Emergency Support Fund for Israelis Living in San Diego (KESF).” Thanks to your generosity to this fund, and donations to kindnessG’MACH, we are able to help these families set up a home, put food on their table, nd Hebrew schooling for their children, and access health and wellbeing resources they so desperately need. These are some of the amazing achievements I’ve seen our team accomplish in my rst three months at Kindness Initiative. Together with your support, we will continue to grow and positively impact so many more lives in our beautiful community. Toda Raba! With deep gratitude,Sabrina, Executive DirectorJoshua, a devoted single father, faced a challenging situation after losing his job due to the full-time care needed for his two sons, one with autism and the other with ADHD. With rent of $2000 and unemployment at $1800, he turned to Kindness Initiative (KI) for support. Joshua’s goal was guring out how to secure employment while caring for his special needs children.KI stepped in, assisting with resume review and job coaching from a volunteer mentor. Additionally, KI provided a short-term nancial stipend, and essentials through kindnessG'MACH, such as clothing, toiletries, and diapers. KI oered guidance on accessing nutritious food, free phone services, and housing assistance to help reduce monthly expenses.Expressing gratitude, Joshua shared, "Thank you ~ I now have a fridge full of fruits and veggies!
