artists-in-schools & community programKala’s multi-faceted Artists-in-Schools & Community Program is relevant and engaging, and brings together students, teachers, and families from the East Bay and beyond. The program builds strong connections with schools and community spaces where Kala’s teaching artists lead a series of visual art classes for K–12th grade youth throughout the year. Teaching artists conduct residencies that are tailored to meet the needs of each school and community space by working closely with teachers and staff to develop curricula and art activities that both challenge students and captivate non-standard learners. Many of our projects are interdisciplinary and connect art-making with other academic disciplines. Kala returns to the majority of its schools year after year. Over time, we’ve seen that arts education fosters self-esteem, boosts motivation, creates resilient students, and helps build strong school communities. We reach over 2,500 local children and youth every year.COLLABORATIVE“I like making art using various art materials, and working with friends to come up with new ideas together.”kala isARTIST RESIDENCIESEXHIBITIONSCLASSESStudio & Business Office 1060 Heinz Ave, Berkeley, CA 94710Gallery & Classrooms 2990 San Pablo Ave, Berkeley, CA 94702 facebook.com/KalaArtInstitute twitter.com/KalaInstitute instagram.com/KalaArtInstitutewww.kala.orgARTS EDUCATION PROGRAMSconnect with kala’s education teamGeneral inquiries: education@kala.org Youth, Family & School Programs: 510-841-7000 Ext. 203, youtharts@kala.orgAdult Classes: 510-841-7000 Ext. 202, classes@kala.orgKala gratefully acknowledges support from the following foundations, agencies, and corporations: California Arts Council, California Humanities, City of Emeryville, Clif Bar Family Foundation, Bill Graham Supporting Foundation of the Jewish Community Endowment Fund, The Joseph and Vera Long Foundation, Kala Board of Directors, The Larry Chaset Arts Education Fund, Mechanics Bank, Sharon Simpson/Simpson PSB Fund, Saint Paul & Minnesota Foundation/Leonard Hunter in memory of Julia Marshall, The Sato Foundation, Richard K.
