SWEET SIXTEEN!We have a special member in our midst! Liz, born in a leap year, recently marked her 16th birthday! Liz was pleasantly surprised when we organized a day of celebration for her ‘sweet sixteen’. The festivities included cookies, cakes, and candy, as well as balloons and banners. Check out the snapshots from the event!TRAININGDerrick Harris, Mark Hughes and Brandon Watters attended a REAC Training Course in February. The course was instructed by Cli Karnegy, who is the Senior Advisor at the United States Department of Housing & Urban Development (HUD). For some attendees, the course served as a review of existing knowledge, while for others, it provided new information. We organized additional internal training sessions in February as well. We hosted a Preventative Maintenance training session and a Manager Training session. During these sessions, each member of the maintenance team introduced themselves, highlighting their areas of expertise and how they contribute to the company and our residents. To ensure consistency across properties, we introduced a revised checklist to streamline operations and minimize confusion.Following the maintenance meeting, Claudia presented a delightfulspread of food. After lunch, the managers’ meeting was kicked o with a fun team-building exercise. Managers were tasked with sharing their birthdays without speaking or writing, using only hand gestures. Then, it was time to delve into the agenda, which included discussions on the leasing training manual available in hard copy and in SharePoint and the introduction of QR code business cards for gathering reviews from prospects and residents about our exceptional team.

Have you ever stopped and thought about this quote? There’s so much depth to it.No one is perfect and everyone makes mistakes. But instead of looking at mistakes as failures, successful people see them as learning opportunities. As famous author and business consultant Stephen Covey said, “The proactive approach to a mistake is to acknowledge it instantly, correct and learn from it.” And as General Colin Powell professed, “There are no secrets to success. It is the result of preparation, hard work, and learning from failure.”But just because we know that perfection is impossible doesn’t mean that we shouldn’t “chase” it, as Lombardi suggests. After all, chasing something gets you moving. To chase something is to take action, to move with intention. That action is almost more important than whether or not you actually reach the goal!As Whitney Wolfe, co-founder of Tinder (of all things) said, “Have a dream, chase it down, jump over every single hurdle, and run through re and ice to get there.” What’s stopping you from dreaming big? After all, someone has to be the best. It might as well be you — so why not chase that goal, even knowing that you might not get to it?Because as Lombardi says, chasing will land us on excellence. We may mess up from time to time, but they will be learning experiences. And those learning experiences will make us even better. As the all-star coach Pat Riley said, “Excellence is the gradual result of always striving to do better.”
