Vallejo Juneteenth 2023The Solano County African Family Celebration Committee, also known as African AmericanFamily Reunion Committee (AAFRC), is a non-profit 501 (c) (3) organization created in 1989to promote the national observance of Juneteenth marking emancipation for remainingenslaved Africans in Texas, and therefore the United States; to celebrate positivecontributions of African Americans nationally and locally; and to promote a culturalconnection of the observance as an opportunity to build strong communities throughaccess to health/wellness, education, employment, and generational wealth resources.WHO WE AREOUR COMMITMENT TO THE COMMUNITYThe AAFRC organizes Vallejo's annual Juneteenth Celebration on the third Saturday inJune to promote opportunities for access to free health care and education resourcesfor families, youth, and children through partnerships with local non-profit and majorhealth care providers. The committee shares this valuable information with thecommunity through its network of volunteers serving on the African American FamilyReunion Committee. This free event is one of the major annual festivals in the City ofVallejo and attracts 1,000+ visitors each year from across the Bay Area.The overarching message is that Juneteenth is a time to celebrate our community'scultural diversity while promoting access to quality healthcare and educationopportunities, and supporting local businesses, all of which help create healthy, thrivingcommunities.
