Ratzer - firstly to say a big thank you for her recent generous donation and also to let her know that there were some personal items we believe are hers that we found in the bottom of a white carrier bag that contained flannels and towels for us. Please contact Cynthia on the number below to identify and collect these items. For our fund raising sales we currently only require costume or broken jewellery, shoes and handbags as we are still processing saleable items accumulated over the winter months. However we have now applied for our usual tombola stalls at the Stubbington Fayre in August so would like unwanted gifts as prizes for men, women, boys and girls along with gift bags and wrapping paper please or any cat orientated items. Obviously we always need wet and dry cat food, cat milk, cat litter, old flannels and tea towels for cleaning and CLEAN single and double duvets, duvet covers (any size) and blankets, towels and throws for bedding. We are also appealing for any unwanted soft cat beds please. We are unable to take pillows and cushions as our waste company charge us to dispose of these. If you prefer to make a donation towards our ever increasing vet bills (cheques MUST be made payable to THE GROVE VETS please or if you have any loose change to spare this would also be very much appreciated as every penny really does count. All donations can be taken to our drop off point the front door of 6 Sanross Close, Hillhead, PO14 3NH but only on Wednesdays and Saturdays, 3pm to 4pm on both days please. We request that these times be adhered to, but alternative arrangements can be made by phoning Cynthia on 01329 661238. For any other information about our rescue please phone Sandra on 023 8066 1965 and leave a full message on her answer-phone. Finally our grateful thanks go to Phil and Becky in Hillhead, Tania Panormo, Beryl, Margaret Domoney and her friend Rachel and all her friends and the anonymous person for the loose change collection. Our special thanks also go to Rosie and Rufus - two 1 year old cats who have thoughtfully donated lots of lovely cat food that they have changed their minds about eating! Thank you to everyone for your continued support.

15LOCAL NEWS - LOCAL NEWS - LOCAL NEWS - LOCAL NEWS - LOCAL NEWS - LOCAL NEWS Lee Hub Independent Community Library NewsA great deal has been happening at your community library over the last couple of months. We held a very successful ‘World Book Day’ which was followed by a sold out ‘World Book Evening’ that included a number of activities for the younger reader and a book related film. Such was the success of the evening event that we are holding another book related ‘Movie night’ on 30th May and we hope to be able to hold similar events on a regular basis. May brought remembrance and celebration for the end of WWII and with this year being the 80th anniversary of the cessation of hostilities in Europe we were fortunate to receive a grant from Gosport Borough Council and a donation from the Royal Navy Association to put towards our VE80 celebratory luncheon. So, a huge ’Thank you’ to both GBC and the RNA. Over the Easter period we held an Easter Egg Hunt that was very well supported by local businesses in Lee-on-the-Solent and without whose support we could not have had such a successful event. Your community library continues to enjoy a growing membership, and I would like to thank all those who have renewed their membership and those who have joined. However, we are still looking for more volunteers who can spare 3.5 hours per week to run the reception and operate our till for one shift so that we can keep this essential community project open. So, if you would like to know more about becoming a volunteer, please pop into the Hub and speak to one of the ‘on duty’ volunteers for more information. If you like homemade scones and cakes along with a fresh cup of tea or coffee and a catch up with like minded folk. Please remember to visit us on Saturdays (10:00 to 14:00) at our community cafe. The cakes are really very good! Finally, if you would like to know more about your community library, please say hello to us at our stall at the mini market on 7th June where we will be able to answer any questions you might have about your community library. Thank you, Simon Whitehouse 14 High Street, Lee-on-the-Solent PO13 9BZ Tel: 023 9255 1047. https://www.leehub.co.uk/Councillor Kirsten BradleyMay has been an extremely busy month with lots of great progress of works starting throughout the borough. The tennis courts in Privett Park are having a complete refurbishment with two brand new purpose built Pickleball courts. A game that is extremely popular throughout Europe and America, suitable for all age ranges. Work on demolishing the old bus station is underway. Making way for a central area for hosting events and pop-up food and beverage operators, a place to enjoy fantastic views. The first stage of the People’s Park development. The community celebrated VE Day 80 with grants from GBC community fund, 33 parties applied, and each received £100 towards costs. I am delighted to say I am now The Mayor of Gosport following the ceremony on May 14th and I am absolutely looking forward to spending the year ahead highlighting what a wonderful place we all live. Supporting and thanking the dedication and kindness of so many who donate their time to amazing charities and community groups. My 3 chosen Mayors Charities for the year are Lee Hub Community Library, Andy’s Man Club and Marvels and Meltdowns. I will also be looking out for other charities along the way. Keep an eye out for fundraising events and let’s make this a successful positive year. My councillor surgery will return to the 3rd Friday of the month at Lee Hub Community Library, 2pm-3.30. Please contact me in the usual way on: Phone 07920484163, Email cllrkirsten@outlook.com and Facebook messenger Lee East Focus.

Individual players are also playing internal, local, county and national matches. By the time you read this we will, weather permitting, have played friendly matches against Follands (Home), Meon Valley (Home) and Southampton Old Green (Away). Southampton Old Green is the oldest bowling club in the world, and they were established prior to 1299 A.D. Our research revealed that there are no founder members still in existence! We will have held our "Come & Try Day" on 24th May and hopefully we may have attracted some new members. We still welcome newcomers to pop along at any time to find out what lawn bowls entails. Access to the club can be found in the service road behind the library and if the gate is open you will find someone on site to give you all the information you need to get involved.
