BE A TOURIST 8:01PM June 8, 2018 כ“עשת ןויס ה“ח חלש תשרפ Junre 10 - Rebbeim Faculty meeting, 11:30 dismissal gr. 2-8B June 12 - 8G graduation June 14 - last day of preschool,- classes end at 12:00 noon June 14 - 8B graduation June 15 - last day elementary and middle school— all classes end at 12 noon The word רותל can be more accurately translated as ‘to tour’. Someone who visits a foreign country from the perspective of tourist is viewing the country from a positive lens. He is intrigued by the qualities and the sites of the land he’s touring, the culture, language and customs. Conversely, an individual coming לגרל, to scout, is visiting a foreign country with a radically different attitude. While he too, visits the length and breadth of the country, but his scrutiny is different. He is spying, looking for the negative, and the weak points of the land he’s traveling through that he ultimately hopes to exploit. This explains the הלבקו בתכ, was the mistake of the meraglim. Moshe had commanded them ץראה תא ורתיו, tour the lands like tourists. The land is ץראה הבוטדאמ דאמ, it is exceedingly good and has all the special qualities that are necessary for Klal Yisrael to achieve their destiny as a people. It was incumbent on the meraglim to go to לארשי ץרא and discover all this good. Yehoshua and Kalev went with this attitude. The rest of the meraglim, however, went ץראה תא לגרל, to spy the land. They went with the mindset of spies – looking for all the negativity in the land. We as parents and mechanchim set the tone in homes for our children. If our attitude is ץראה תא רותל, always looking for the positive, this will generate an atmosphere of positivity that will influence our children to be positive people. We need to train ourselves to speak positively, compliment, and always find and mention the good. If we can do this, our children will follow suit. I would like to thank our administration, staff and parents for a wonderful year of growth in all areas, and I wish you all a restful, healthy, and happy summer. The first day of the upcoming school year is Wednesday, August 29th, and I look forward to seeing everyone then! תבש טוג Rabbi Ochs The הלבקו בתכ writes that there are two words in שדוקה ןושל describing the actions of one who visits a foreign land: רותל and לגרל. Both words imply visiting, but with vastly different goals. This week saw many wonderful presentations. In the upcoming week we will have a few more, our two graduations and the boys end of year siyum. We want to thank Morah Linda Nussbaum for her musical accompaniment at many of the performances. A special thank you to Mr. Yitzchak Sadetsky for tuning the piano in the Hamilton building. It truly enhanced the music for the performances. At the final general studies teacher’s meeting this week, we bid farewell to Dr. Brenda Keegan. She was presented with a book of letters from the faculty and staff. We wish her all the best in her “re”retirement. It is with wishes for החלצהו הכרב a that we bid a fond farewell to Mrs. Yavner. She and her husband will be relocating to Chicago, this summer, to be closer to her daughter and son-in-law and some of their grandchildren and great-grandchildren. On Monday, 6B went on a special trip to New York as a siyum for finishing סנוכה קרפ. Some of the highlights of the trip included a visits to The Living Torah Museum, a batim maker, and a private meeting with Rabbi Avrohom Shorr טילש“א .
