Chair LetterScott PalermoA Skeetz ProductionPage 5ScottHi Friends,Is there anything better than the first week of June? I mean Christmas time is good and Halloween with all of the costumesand everything and Birthdays are your own special day but, as a kid, if you asked me what my favorite holiday was, I woulddefinitely answer, “the first day or Summer Vacation!” Don’t get me wrong—I liked school but there is nothing better thanwaking up that morning knowing that you had the next 75-days with almost no cares or responsibilities and a whole worldout there to conquer.Summers were the best growing up in North County. We would be up and out the door early to meet friends on the fields, lots and pools, playing games that we are no longer able to play (for several different reasons) and pretty much go all dayuntil dinner time when we would grab a quick bite and head back out until curfew. We would explore the creeks like it was uncharted land or ride our bikes for miles to Village Square to hang out and get atreat at DQ. When we were teens we would cruise Lindbergh from Putt-Putt to Crosskeys to Parker Road McDonald’s,looking for friends and meeting new ones or going to the dance parties at the public pools and church halls.Do I sound old if I say that the kids today can’t imagine what they are missing? Well, the chamber can’t bring back thosemagical days we had when we were young, but we do have a lot of things planned this Summer that we plan to make fun!Our Annual Golf Tournament is Friday. It is such a great event that it has been sold out for weeks and it is too late to get asponsorship but, if you feel like spending part of a nice day at the Florissant Golf Cub, we could still use a couple ofvolunteers. Call Jaime or Laura if you are interested.Register for the luncheon on June 19th because you aren’t going to want to miss our special guest speaker from the St. LouisZoo! Jaime wouldn’t let me ask them to bring a sea lion but they do have exciting news for us about progress on the WildCarePark expansion in North County. I don’t know about you, but I have a lot of great memories of the Zoo when I was a kid tooand I am excited to see what they have going on now.Off the Clock is scheduled for Thursday, June 13 and unfortunately our sponsor for that event had something come up so weare unsure of where it will be but it is always an awesome time. If you would like to host this month, please call the office andwe will be happy to line that up and let all of our members know about it.We are proud to announce a new event to generate exposure for our members. Our Fun in the Sun Campaign is a hunt forbranded flip-flops at our member businesses. The public may scan a bar code on the flip-flop sign to be entered into a GrandPrize drawing expected to be worth over $1000. To be a destination and get your flip-flop, contact the chamber office buthurry as we start next week. (I know I said flip-flops a lot in that paragraph, but I was told I cannot call them thongs.)We have a lot more fun things planned for the Summer that we will tell you about soon but I wanted to make sure thateveryone saves the date for our annual Bowling for Scholars event on August 1 at Crest Bowl. It is our fundraiser for thescholarships we award to North County High School Seniors, and we have some new fun things we are doing with it thisyear!Have a great Summer and…Keep it REAL,
