June 2023 OKVetWorks Newsletter
Where has this year gone?!?! It seems like just yesterday 2023 just began!
I am currently in the middle of planning our September "Making the Connection" conference. We will follow the same schedule as t]last year. Our first day (night) will be another amazing Meet and Greet Networking event. Everyone that attended last year said they were looking forward to another opportunity like it. The next day will kick of with a Keynote Speaker and then dive right off into our breakout sessions. Then we will end with another keynote speaker. The following day will be set-up the same way except will will close out the conference with our annual awards ceremony and dinner. I hope everyone can stick around for this wonderful event. AND don't forget about our vendor trade fair as well. This year the tables will be open the entire time for you to stop by and see what other veteran owned businesses have to offer.
As the year flies by, don;t forget about our hiring events. If you are looking to hire veterans this is an excellent opportunity to get qualified applicants. Watch our Facebook and website for dates and locations.
Next week is the celebration of the 75th anniversary of the Women's Armed Forces Integration Act. It is June 12, 2023 and will be held at the Oklahoma History Center. More information is inside the newsletter.
Also, proud to announce that the Oklahoma State University has now opened up the applications for the 2024 Veteran Entrepreneur Program (additional information inside). This program is everything you ever wanted and much more. Be sure and apply to be a part and let me know when you apply - I would love to keep track.
The OKVetWorks program continues to grow. As of this morning (June 6, 2023) we now have 1171 Oklahoma Veteran Owned businesses registered with us. As more continue to be a part the better things get, the more networking there is, and better our events can be. Be sure and tell everyone you know that they need to be a part of the OKVetWorks program!

This order was issued by Gen. Dwight D. Eisenhower to encourage Allied soldiers taking part in the D-day invasion of June 6, 1944. Almost immediately after France fell to the Nazis in 1940, the Allies planned a cross-Channel assault on the German occupying forces, ultimately code-named Operation Overlord. By May 1944, 2,876,000 Allied troops were amassed in southern England.
The largest armada in history, made up of more than 4,000 American, British, and Canadian ships, lay in wait, and more that 1,200 planes stood ready. Against a tense backdrop of uncertain weather forecasts, disagreements in strategy, and related timing dilemmas, Eisenhower decided before dawn on June 5 to proceed with Overlord. Later that same afternoon, he scribbled a note intended for release, accepting responsibility for the decision to launch the invasion and full blame should the effort to create a beachhead on the Normandy coast fail. Much more polished is his printed Order of the Day for June 6, 1944, which Eisenhower began drafting in February.
The order was distributed to the 175,000-member expeditionary force on the eve of the invasion.
