Well folks, I’ve lived in denial for as long as I can. I’ve put o saying goodbye because I knew this was going to be such a dicult thing to do. But my last Sunday is coming up on June 6th and the me is here and now. I want each of you to know how much I love you and have loved serving alongside you in this amazing church. It has been a real blessing to have been able to share these last four years with you, and I am a much beer person and pastor for it.I barely had my foot in the door before Hurricane Harvey blew in, which stretched us in so many ways and extended our impact in Victoria and in the surrounding communies. Then, with Dinner Church we grew that even more and watched as our children’s and youth ministries took o with new families pouring into these programs. And shortly thereaer the pandemic changed everything, and we had to nd new ways to be in ministry with one another and in the community. It has been an adventure, to say the least, and I feel like we have all done our best to ride the wave. I know I am not the same as I was. And I know that this is largely because you have shown me so much grace, and you have taught me how to love deeply and to serve greatly by your own example.Thank you for sharing life with me, for loving me so well, and for making this such a hard goodbye…or at least a hard see you later…as my family and I head on to our next appointments.I know that you will be blessed by the leadership of Pastor Amanda Banda as she and her family join you in ministry. She is coming in with her own amazing gis and talents that are going to add so much to what this church is already doing. I trust that you will love her, and that God has put the right person in place for what comes next for First UMC. And I have so much condence that the youth program is going to thrive under the leadership of Andy Je, your new youth director. He has such a great heart and passion for ministry, and he is going to love and lead the youth so well. Knowing that these young people that have become like my own kids are going to be in such good hands shows me that God has everything fully in control.May God connue to bless each and every one of you and this wonderful church that I have had the immense privilege of calling home for lile while. All the best!RyanThe youth mission trip to Alamosa, CO is just around the corner! Be sure to check out the church Facebook Page the week of June 13-19 for regular updates from our me in Colorado. We are so excited about the opportunies ahead, and we are so grateful to all of you for helping to make this discipleship and service opportunity possible.

United Methodist Women NewsWe met on May 4th with Ashley Hunter our Music Director doing a very enjoyable program on music. She started out asking how many played the piano, saying many parents wanted their children in music lessons. We “make our own music”. Each of us recounted our earliest memories of music, whether it was a parent singing to us, singing at the beginning of Sunday School, a TV commercial, the radio. If we look at the songs in the Hymnal, they will have been wrien for a purpose and have meaning. Social media is not the best venue for music, do it in person! Ashley talked about how to use these resources for geng music via a computer or smart phone: You Tube, Spofy, and Pandora. To close the meeng, Glen Hunter, Ashley’s husband, came and accompanied us as we sang favorite hymns. She asked which hymnal was our favorite, the United Methodist Hymnal, the Cokesbury, or the Faith We Sing. An honorarium to thank Ashley was given to the Music Fund. The Rio Texas UMW Annual Luncheon will be a virtual event on Saturday June 5th from 12:30p.m. – 2:00p.m. Darlene Alfred a member of the UMW Naonal Board of Directors will be speaking. Sit down with your lunch and join in via Zoom. To register, go to the Rio Texas UMW Website. We will not meet for programs during June, July and August. But we will meet for a Dutch Treat Lunch at King’s Grill on July 6th to visit.Monthly Special oering has been known as “Communion Rail Giving”Monthly Special OfferingThe Big Garden (3021107)The Big Garden was founded in 2005 by United Methodist Ministries through funding from the USDA’s Community Food Project. The inial goal was to create 12 community gardens in three years. As of today, The Big Garden has helped to establish more than 160 community gardens in urban and rural communies throughout Nebraska, Kansas, and Southwest Iowa. Our goal is to reduce hunger by increasing access to fresh, healthy produce and teaching people to grow, cook, & preserve their own!hp://biggarden.org/

School Ministry NewsMay was a super busy month for our School Ministry Commiee.We started out the month with Teacher Appreciaon Week. There was a theme for each day of the week and it turned out great! On Mun Monday, teachers arrived to work with breakfast muns, juice and water ready for them. Taco Tuesday provided taco salad and lots of sweet desserts! On Wellness Wednesday we prepared cute lile canvas bags full of “take care of you” items and on Thankful Thursday we delivered beauful lile poed succulent plants to everyone. Fun Friday was for the kid inside every teacher – an Ice Cream Sundae bar! Our teachers loved everything!!Pam Wick, a teacher at Shields Elementary posted the following: “Thoughulness is a virtue. Your thoughul gis of me, meals, prayer and lile gis here and there show how much me and eort each of you put into choosing something very special for each of us on this campus. I will always treasure both the thoughulness and how much you care. God bless each of you and thank you from the boom of my heart.”STAAR tesng for 3rd, 4th and 5th graders was next on the calendar of events. Each of the students received an awesome Star Wars puzzle and star shaped eraser. On Friday, May 21, our Shields Sharks had their Field Day. Last years eld day was cancelled and this year we had to do things a lile dierently due to COVID precauons. We provided bounce houses, obstacle courses and a basketball game as well as a giant Connect-Four game and a blow-up horse race game. Everyone received a treat bag lled with lots of goodies from their great day of fun. The 2020-2021 school year presented many challenges to our ministry, but we have worked to stay as connected to the school as we could. We thank our congregaon for supporng our teachers and students this year. We are prayerfully looking forward to next school year and a more hands-on ministry.
