Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, ELCA propeace.org Welcome to Prince of Peace! As we begin worship, we hope and pray that it will be a time of connection with God and with others, so that we can leave this service ready to love and serve our neighbors. Bold type indicates everyone's response. Gathering Prelude Prelude on “Come, Thou Almighty King” Healey Willan Welcome Confession and Forgiveness In the name of the Father, and of the ☩ Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen. Baptized into Christ, let us confess our sin. Silence is kept for reflection. Merciful God, you free us to love others, but we neglect our neighbors and follow our own way. You lead us by the Spirit of joy and peace, but we turn away from the abundant life you offer. You surround us with patience, kindness, and generosity, but we grow weary in doing what is right. In your mercy, forgive us. Do not give up on us. Heal us, break our bonds, and show us the path of life. Amen. P: You belong to Christ Jesus and you are God’s children through faith. In the cross of ☩ Christ, and through the power of the Holy Spirit, your sins are forgiven. Clothed with Christ, you are a new creation. Amen. Welcome to Holy Trinity Sunday! Trinity Sunday celebrates the Christian doctrine of the Trinity, the three Persons of God: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. (And speaking of Fathers…Happy Father’s Day to all who celebrate today). Today as we celebrate the Trinity, we get to marvel at the dance of their interconnectivity…and how creative our God is!

* Gathering Hymn Prayer of the Day God of heaven and earth, before the foundation of the universe and the beginning of time you are the triune God: Author of creation, eternal Word of salvation, life-giving Spirit of wisdom. Guide us to hope and joy by your Spirit, that we may proclaim all that Christ has revealed and rejoice in the glory he shares with us. Glory and praise to you, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, now and forever. Amen.

The Word First Reading Romans 5:1-5 1Therefore, since we are justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, 2through whom we have obtained access to this grace in which we stand; and we boast in our hope of sharing the glory of God. 3And not only that, but we also boast in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, 4and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, 5and hope does not disappoint us, because God's love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit that has been given to us. *Second Reading Proverbs 8:1-4, 22-31 Does not wisdom call, and does not understanding raise her voice? 2On the heights, beside the way, at the crossroads she takes her stand; 3beside the gates in front of the town, at the entrance of the portals she cries out: 4"To you, O people, I call, and my cry is to all that live. 22The LORD created me at the beginning of his work, the first of his acts of long ago. 23Ages ago I was set up, at the first, before the beginning of the earth. 24When there were no depths I was brought forth, when there were no springs abounding with water. 25Before the mountains had been shaped, before the hills, I was brought forth — 26when he had not yet made earth and fields, or the world's first bits of soil. 27When he established the heavens, I was there, when he drew a circle on the face of the deep, 28when he made firm the skies above, when he established the fountains of the deep, Romans was written for the church in Rome... and includes some of Paul’s most profound words. These words can be a balm to us when we are struggling. …and what they teach us about the hard-fought acquisition of hope is liberating. -=- These words from Proverbs are often described as the 3rd Creation story in the Bible. And will serve as a lovely entrance into a conversation about the Trinity. If you are waiting for worship to start, feel free to read the middle verses 5-21… what stands out for you?

29when he assigned to the sea its limit, so that the waters might not transgress his command, when he marked out the foundations of the earth, 30then I was beside him, like a master worker; and I was daily his delight, rejoicing before him always, 31rejoicing in his inhabited world and delighting in the human race.
