SAFEGUARD THE GROWTH 8:02 PM June 10, 2022 י‘‘ב״פשת ןויס א אשנ תשרפ Sun, June 12 - 8th grade Graduation Wed, June 15 - last day for preschool, 12:00 noon dismissal Thurs, June 16 - last day of classes for grades 1-8B/G, noon dismissal Dear Parents, When discussing the inyan of Nazir, the possuk in Parshas Nasso states: ׳הל וריזה ימי לכ יכ םתמב אמטי אל ׳וכו ומאו ויבאל אבי אל תמ שפנ לעושארב ויקולא רזנ. Similar to a Kohen, an individual who makes a vow to become a Nazir is not allowed to become תמ אמט. Even if the deceased is a close relative, he still cannot become impure. However, there is a distinction. A Kohen, though he is in a state of kedusha, is allowed to become impure for his seven closest relatives. A Nazir cannot. Why? The Avnei Neizer explains that for a Kohen, his exalted status is hereditary. It requires no special effort on his part to obtain it. Since the source of his השודק is familial, it is only appropriate that he be allowed to become impure due to his family. Conversely, the ריזנ’s status is personal. He makes an individual choice to abstain from wine and impurity and thus achieves a superior level of השודק from his family. Therefore, he cannot contaminate himself when they die. The Sfas Emes expands this idea by underlining that the Kohen’s Kedusha is automatic. The Nazir’s is self-made. Self-made progress in Kedusha is more profound than the level that is inherited. As Yidden, we have both the inherent Kedusha from being a member of םינהכ תכלממand שודק יוג. We also have the potential to create our own levels of Kedusha via our commitment to Torah and Mitzvos. With the summer months right around the bend, let’s ensure that we preserve and live by our standard of Kedusha demanded of a תכלממםינהכ and even continue to grow and safeguard our self-created Kedusha. Enjoy your Summer break! Mazel Tov to our Eighth Graders. May you go ליח לא ליחמ.
