Travel doesn’t have to come with a premium price tag, especially if you know where to look forsavings and how to take advantage of rewards. Many retirees are in a great position to travel moreaffordably thanks to flexible schedules, potential access to senior discounts, and the ability to planahead. TRAVEL DISCOUNTS ANDREWARD STRATEGIES EVERYRETIREE SHOULD KNOWNEW BLOGSENIOR DISCOUNTS YOU MAY BE MISSINGNot every company advertises its senior discounts prominently, but that doesn’t mean they aren’tavailable. If you’re 60 or older, it’s worth asking about potential savings when booking with: Major hotel chains like Marriott, Hilton, and Best Western Rental car companies, including Hertz and BudgetAirlines like United and DeltaAmtrak and some public transit systemsCruise lines and group tour companiesNational parks (a one-time fee for a lifetime senior pass)Some of these discounts are only offered to AARP members or require you to book through specialchannels. Others may limit what dates or ticket classes qualify. Even with the limitations, they’re stillworth checking before you start booking. Modest savings on multiple legs of a trip can add up fast. Not having the obligations of childcare or work gives retirees some unique savings opportunities thatweren’t available during their working years. And if you’re flexible with destinations or travel dates, you may find better dealssimply by shifting your plans slightly.Booking 6 to 8 weeks in advance tends to hit the sweet spot for domestic travel. For internationaltrips, aim for 2 to 4 months ahead, especially during peak seasons. Don’t forget to check cancellation or rebooking policies. Some airlines allow you to rebook if thefare drops after you purchase.Late checkout or room upgradesFree Wi-Fi or breakfastBonus points just for booking directlyPremium credit cards often come with built-in travel benefits like:Airport lounge accessAutomatic travel insurance or trip cancellation protectionPriority customer service or concierge supportMany of these perks don’t require elite status.
