This donation allows us to change our fluorescent lighting to energy saving LED lights which will help us reduce our energy bills at a time of seemingly ever-increasing costs. We have upgraded our broadband package to a ‘Gigafast’ service which has made a significant improvement to our internet connection and the WiFi available in the Hub. Our thanks go out to Nigel and Tyler at Solent Computers for their advice and help in setting up this new service. Consequently, we have decided to offer basic IT workshops to those who might feel a little isolated by technology. Will Sugden from the 'Citizens Advice Bureau’ is going to run FREE IT workshops in the Hub on four successive Thursdays in July between 2pm and 4pm: Thursday 10th July - Understanding your device. Thursday 17th July - Using Email. Thursday 24th July - Internet Safety. Thursday 31st July - Social Media If you would like to make use of one of the 10 spaces available (we have 10 laptop computers to loan out for the workshops), please contact the Hub and get your name on the list. We are still looking for more volunteers who can spare 3.5 hours per week to run the reception and operate our till for one shift so that we can keep this essential community project open. So, if you would like to know more about becoming a volunteer, please pop into the Hub and speak to one of the ‘on duty’ volunteers for more information. If you like homemade scones and cakes along with a fresh cup of tea or coffee and a catch up with like-minded folk. Please remember to visit us on Saturdays (10:00 to 13:30) at our community cafe. The cakes are really very good!Stubbington Belles WIWe are a small, friendly group who meet on the 2nd Monday of the month at The Crofton Club, Titchfield Lane, from 1.30-3.30pm. We have a variety of speakers giving us talks or demonstrations on a wide range of topics, as well as a regular lunch club and coffee morning. We also arrange an annual minibus day trip and visits to local open gardens. Pal Hayre, Mayor of Fareham, will be joining us on Monday 14 July to talk about her journey to becoming Mayor. Both are held at Lee Community Centre, Lee-on-the-Solent. We do not expect an exceptional standard for show entries; many people are surprised at getting a “placed” entry at their first time of entering. There are many classes to enter apart from flowers and vegetables. You can also enter Homecraft comprising knitting, cakes, jams & chutneys, knitting and crochet, flower arrangements and hanging baskets etc. There are also classes for children. We hold Social Evenings with guest speakers. Members can make use of the LHS Trading Hut in Holly Bank where discounted horticultural supplies are sold. Our recent "Come & Try Day" saw a very good turnout which resulted in new members being signed up. Our trip to Southampton to play a friendly against Southampton Old Green saw a match of two halves. At the halfway stage we were leading overall by 10 shots but unfortunately we succumbed to the pressure of the home team and eventually lost the match by 14 shots. We did, however, win on one rink and drew on another which made our journey worthwhile. By the time that you read this we will have played, weather permitting, an internal match of Ladies versus Gentlemen which is in aid of our President's charity Rowans Hospice. Around 80 members will be involved both on and off the green to help raise money for this very worthwhile charity. Apart from all our own matches our rink is in great demand to host prestigious matches. The month of August will be very busy as we are hosting the Portsmouth & District semi-finals and final on Saturday 2nd and Sunday 3rd August starting at 9.30am. On Sunday 10th August we will be hosting the Gosport & Fareham President's match. This is where we provide six mixed rinks to play against six rinks selected from other local clubs and this match will start at 2.30pm. Then on Saturday 16th August we will be hosting the semi-finals of the Rowland Cup at 10.00am & then at 2.00pm. Why not pop along and see for yourself what lawn bowls is all about. We can be located in the service road behind the library.
