EMPLOYEE Engagement Midtown Campus celebration with Chef Will and Chef Cherida SPEM Zainab Van Auken and UMMS Patient Experience Director Jennifer Ball Charles Regional FNS team celebrating Patient Experience Week PDA OLYMPICS BALTIMORE WASHINGTON The PDA Olympics at UM BWMC was launched to demonstrate the importance of the components of the TAP Program Temperature Accuracy and Presentation and to address areas of improvement identified through management rounding and PDA shadows Our CNM Elyse Kontra and SPEM Casey Lynch developed these interactive games to train and engage PDAs in a two day event Through the PDA Olympics the management team was able to identify additional areas of opportunity and will be engaging in more in the moment PDA training and one on one shadowing PE Trivia at Harford Memorial Hospital Winner received Ironbird Tickets PATIENT EXPERIENCE WEEK UMMS SYSTEM Patient Experience Week is an annual event to celebrate healthcare staff impacting patient experience everyday As the Food and Nutrition department we play a vital role in the patients health goals and experience Partnering with the UMMS PE team our teams celebrated with prize raffles PE trivia and gift baskets for nursing We provided tray cards to our patients with QR codes to access calming music fun recipes and word games Build that Tray Temperature Accuracy and Presentation Game JULY 2023 2

ProgramENHANCEMENTS NPO ROADMAP UMMS SYSTEM The NPO Roadmap is a communication tool utilized during patient visitation by our leaders across the UM system This amenity explains the meal service program sets expectations and shares diet education for patients who are currently NPO Providing our teams with the NPO roadmap aids them in creating impactful interactions with their patients The teams are receiving positive feedback from patients and nurses on the effectiveness of this communication and education tool HEART HEALTHY DIET REMOVAL UPPER CHESAPEAKE HEALTH Upper Chesapeake Health successfully removed the Heart Healthy diet This diet often was prescribed to patients erroneously being seen as a healthy food option but to patients a dissatisfier due to the restriction on salt and fat and flavor Studies show there is no meaningful effect on heart disease stroke diabetes and weight loss when you limit a percentage of calories from fat Our menus contain many healthy options which supports the efforts to make the go to prescribed diet Regular So far patients are sharing positive feedback of having more options to choose from and improved flavor LAUREL COFFEE SHOP LAUREL MEDICAL CENTER The Coffee Bar at the new Laurel facility is open for business The coffee shop offers fresh hot and iced coffee drinks delicious pastries cookies and snacks We are also offering a great variety of grab go breakfast and lunch items for those on the run Can t wait to see you there Cordian Brown FNS Director at the new Laurel Coffee Shop JULY 2023 4

OPERATIONSSpotlight JOSE TORRES DIRECTOR CHARLES REGIONAL Jose Torres is new to the UMMS System recently accepting the role as Food Service Director at Charles Regional Medical Center He has been working in Food and Nutrition for almost 10 years working his way up as a Retail Supervisor Patient Experience Manager Patient Services Manager and Operations Manager Jose loves to help patients by providing them with the best food and experience possible He is a huge soccer fan and loves to attend live games His dream is to travel to Europe to see a Champions League game CHEF DON CROWTHER EXECUTIVE CHEF HARFORD MEMORIAL Chef Don has been a chef for 21 years and has held the title of Executive Chef at Harford Memorial for just over 3 years Prior to that he was the Executive Chef at Loyola University He loves to work with his team at Harford and to heal patients through food Chef enjoys spending time with his wife and 14 year old daughter cruise the Caribbean and hangout with his dog Bella and turtle BB Chef Don is excited about the transition to the new Aberdeen location CHRISTINE ALLEN RD CLINICAL NUTRITION DIRECTOR SHORE HEALTH Christine is the Clinical Nutrition Manager at UM Shore Medical Center She started her career here 29 years ago She has provided both inpatient clinical services and outpatient counseling at all three Shore Medical facilities over the years She is also a Certified Specialist in Oncology and has been providing nutrition services at the Shore Regional Cancer Center for over 20 years Patient care of critically ill patients and caring for cancer patients receiving treatment is what she loves best about her job She enjoys spending time walking hiking boating and spending time at the beach with friends and family 5

PARTNERSpotlight UMMC MIDTOWN PATIENT SATISFACTION SCORE IMPROVEMENT 75 50 133 25 0 Quality Jan Mar Apr Jun 32 29 Temperature Staff Worked Together Congratulations to UMMC Midtown for producing the highest percent increase in Press Ganey scores from Q3 to Q4 Midtown recently welcomed 4 new team members to their management team In the recent quarter they rolled out a new patient menu utilizing the feedback gathered during patient rounds and patient surveys Also retail received a menu refresh adding more offerings for nurses staff and guests Keep up the great work team Top Box DANIEL SHELLY CPA UM REHABILITATION AND ORTHOPAEDIC INSTITUTE Daniel Shelly took over as the Vice President of Operations at UM Rehabilitation and Orthopaedic Institute UMROI in 2020 during the height of COVID Prior to his current role he graduated with his MBA from Kutztown University in Pennsylvania His healthcare background spans more than 20 years working with WellSpan Health GBMC and with UMMS at St Joseph Medical Center Our Morrison team is honored to have partnered with Dan for over 3 years during our tenure at UMMS He is passionate about the work that he does for his patients his hospital and the community Dan has always demonstrated servant style leadership at UMROI and continues to work closely with Morrison Healthcare to drive employee engagement process improvement and patient experience Thank you Dan we are extremely grateful for your partnership and everything that you do for your community PATIENT EXPERIENCE UNIVERSITY OF MARYLAND MEDICAL CENTER MIDTOWN Jennifer Ball CHESP T CHEST T CSCT CMIP CPXP is the Director of Patient Experience Advocacy Guest Relations Language Services and Volunteer Services She started her career in healthcare in 2009 with Crothall in Patient Experience and became Senior Patient Experience Manager covering the Northwest She has worked as a Director of EVS and traveled as National Director of Patient Experience Born in Baltimore she is happy to be helping the community she loves In her free time she enjoys traveling being in nature and hanging with friends She is active in her church and gives back to her community through volunteer work Thank you Jenn for your collaboration and support to improve the experience for our patients nurses and members of the community 6

DIRESCpTOoRtlight Capital Region Medical Center LENNOX BENNETT Patrick Ferrigno PF What are three words that you would use to describe yourself Lennox Bennett LB Family man God fearing and committed PF Top three life highlights Go LB Marriage to my wife the birth of my children and the purchase my home before the age of 25 PF If you could witness any historical event what would you want to see LB Are you kidding me Wow LB I would have to say I always wanted to go to Jerusalem and see Christ s tenure on earth LB Specifically the three years of his discipleship I would want to see the struggles that he went through for us I d like to see Christ on this Earth walking amongst men PF What is your least favorite food LB Seafood PF What has been your favorite project at Morrison Healthcare LB Opening up Bon Secours hospital in Baltimore It was my first renovation of a kitchen and dining room area PF Finish this sentence I am happiest when LB When my team is working in unity PF How do you define success LB By how the people around me feel Happiness and the accomplishments of my staff in general I feel that I am happy when everyone around me is happy and satisfied as well LB If I can promote someone that s underneath me or works by my side that makes me happy and gives me a feeling of accomplishment PF What advice do you have for future leaders LB You can t fix everything at once It is a gradual process for things within an organization Take the time to take it all in You should not make rash decisions PF What is your proudest moment at Morrison Healthcare LB When my RDO and VP stood up for me when a client wanted to relieve me of my director role at a previous account My leaders stood up for me saying that I was not the issue and instead transitioned me to a new Director role PF What is one thing that you know for certain LB I know that my time on earth will come to an end PF What s your favorite line from a movie LB I love westerns right Clint Eastwood is one of my favorite actors along with John Wayne LB But I think the best movie line that I like is from Arnold Schwarzenegger I ll be back Lennox and his GEM of the month award winners JULY 2023 7
