VOL 34 OCTOBER 2019 Igniting a generation that seeks Him l a n r u o J This issue The Fields Are Ripe For Harvest BY AARON E ZIEBARTH EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR Do you not say Four months more and then the harvest I tell you open your eyes and look at the fields They are ripe for harvest John 4 35 Stephanie and I lived in rural North Dakota for 5 1 2 years A significant percentage of our friends church family small group members and camp families were farmers Their schedules were significantly impacted by the weather But the most important time of year was harvest time When the crop was ready for harvest everyone focused on getting the crop in You see if they didn t get it in it would be wasted And the consequences would be severe If you have ever harvested fresh fruits or vegetables from your garden you know just how good the fresh produce can taste Perhaps you know the disappointment of not harvesting it and having it go to waste Some of the most effective spiritual harvesting is done with children And we have seen evidence of this year after year God has given us the opportunity to bring in the spiritual harvest with children and teens Our team has recognized that the harvest is plentiful This last ministry year alone we saw 530 children begin relationships with Jesus And we reached a significant milestone since we started keeping statistics in 1992 we are aware of 10 103 souls that have begun saving relationships with Jesus I am excited that so many volunteers have been with us and so many new ones are joining us this year We need many people to fulfill this God given task of bringing in the harvest Jesus spoke of Thank you for joining us in this process I am excited to see what God brings in this year 717 369 4539 WWW JOYELCAMPS ORG INFO JOYEL ORG A Word from the Executive Director PAGE 01 Eyes Open to the Harvest at School PAGE 02 Join the Harvest PAGE 03 Mark Your Calendar PAGE 04 The Privilege of Giving Our commitment to you Joy Joy El is a member of EFCA the Evangelical Council for Financial Accountability The EFCA seal seen here is an expression of our commitment to integrity in all aspects of our ministry Please visit www efca org to find out more about EFCA All donations to Joy Joy El El are tax deductible Ways to give There are a variety of ways to support lifechanging discipleship ministry at Joy Joy El Online at joyelcamps org donate Credit card by phone simply call our finance office Monthly electronic funds transfer EFT Stock bonds Charitable gift annuities Gifts in Kinds To the Campership Fund To the Bible Adventure Endowment Fund To the Camper Endowment Fund To learn more call Jen Doub at 717 369 4539 or email jen joyel org

Eyes Open to the Harvest at School BY LOIS ANN GLESSNER BIBLE ADVENTURE TRAINING AND CURRICULUM COORDINATOR I serve at a Bible Adventure program One week as the students lined up Janiece a third grader pulled me close She quietly asked Are you giving me the thing today She was motioning with her hands but I didn t know what the thing was so I began to play 20 questions to find out With each of my guesses she became more adamant exclaiming Not that thing Finally she clarified It tells you about God I suddenly realized what she meant Relieved I guessed a Bible YES she responded with excitement I realized this student had never held a Bible I learned later from her listener that she had never been in a church Bible Adventure was the only church she knew She had told her listener So this is what a church looks like on the inside My heart aches for students like this Yes she received a Bible and a few weeks later she received a greater gift when she began a relationship with Jesus Because of your love and gifts children like Janiece are coming to know Christ We re thankful for your partnership Please pray that more children will learn about and sign up to participate in Bible Adventure Your gift provides for children to have their own Bible who may have never held a Bible before Name has been changed Caring donors like you provide for the training and equipping of 4 12 Leadership Students to serve as summer camp staff who share life and Christ with our campers Equipped For The Harvest BY RACHEL SHIVELY 4 12 COORDINATOR During this past summer Michelle a 4 12 student served as a junior counselor for a cabin of middle school girls One of Michelle s middle schooler campers Tara made it very obvious that she did not want to be at camp by refusing to join into activities and not wanting to get out of bed in the mornings Michelle prayed with her senior counselor each evening and they prayed specifically for Tara She encouraged Tara through the week reminding her that God loved her and wanted her at camp for a reason However Tara still seemed angry and distant Michelle shared I prayed she would understand God s love for her At mid week Michelle could see her prayers being answered One morning Tara woke up and immediately got out of bed Later that day she participated with the group at chapel At the end of chapel time the gospel message was shared with campers Afterward Michelle connected with Tara to further share and pray with her During this conversation she could see that God had opened a door in Tara s heart She was able to help Tara begin a relationship with Jesus The change in Tara was immediate During the rest of the week she engaged with lessons joined in with activities basically she was someone new The change was real Because Michelle had been equipped through her 4 12 training she was able to lead Tara to Christ Thank you for helping us to equip these 4 12 students to reach into the lives of campers such as Tara Name has been changed GIFTS GIVEN In Memory of Earl James Fletcher Jinx Marrow Kenneth and Fay Oliver Leroy McCrae Leroy McCrae Given by Joyce Fletcher Judith Hurst David and Karen Rotz Greg and Selena Strine Gladys McCrae In Memory of Mary Whitmore Mary Whitmore Mary Whitmore Mary Whitmore Mary Whitmore Given by Christian and Geraldine Frey Glenn and Fannie Kuhn Nolan and Esther Cross Raymond and Louise Wenger George and Jane Pittman
