A WORD FROM JIM HELMS President & CEO, UR Medicine Jones Memorial Hospital Fiscal year 2024 was a year full of advancement for our health system and the Jones Memorial Family. We saw strong financial growth after large setbacks in fiscal year 2023. This year we have witnessed the tremendous expansion of our primary care and specialty services, as well as the exciting conclusion of our Transformation and Modernization Project. As we continue to grow our services and the Jones family in the region, we tasked our team with redefining our mission, vision and values this year and they created our new WECARE model, focusing on Wellness, Empathy, Commitment, Accountability, Respect and Excellence. Our values are more than a message to our patients, they define how we interact with our fellow associates and our community. As you will see in this report, we are committed to this community and focused on the growth of advanced healthcare in Allegany County and the surrounding region. I am grateful for the nearly 500 associates that make up the Jones family and serve this community every day. They are truly what make Jones the healthcare leader that it is today. Thank you for your trust and partnership. Together, we are building a healthier future rooted in our shared values. We look forward to continuing this journey with you in the coming year.

FINANCE Uses of Funding (in thousdands) SOURCES OF FUNDING (in thousdands) Jones Memorial experienced significant improvement during FY24. Volume growth, improvements in reimbursement for patient care activities, additional operating revenue and successful cost reduction efforts all contributed to bringing Jones Memorial from an operating loss of over $10 million in FY23, to a nearly breakeven position in FY24. We also experienced significant growth in Net Assets during FY24, continuing a three year growth trend. Much of this growth is related to the Transformation and Modernization Project. The growth and turnaround achieved in FY24 demonstrates our commitment to ensuring that Jones Memorial continues to operate in a fiscally sound manner. With your trust and partnership we will continue our mission to provide the highest quality healthcare and to expand access to care to the communities we serve.
NEWS TRANSFORMATION PROJECT COMPLETED REACHING FOR THE STARS - JONES RECEIVES CMS 4 STAR RECOGNITION In 2023 Jones achieved a 4-star overall hospital rating from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, the federal agency that provides health coverage to more than 160 million Americans through Medicare, Medicaid and the Health Insurance Marketplace. There are approximately 40 measures in the star rating framework. The overall rating, between 1 and 5 stars, summarizes a variety of measures across 5 areas of quality into a single star rating for each hospital. These areas of quality include treatment of heart attacks and pneumonia, readmission rates and safety of care, among other factors. The evaluation is based specifically on five measure groups; mortality, safety of care, readmission, patient experience and timely and effective care. States Jennifer Scheible, Senior Director of Nursing & Quality Management, “Every associate at Jones plays a key role in helping reach the 4-star rating. As part of the UR Medicine Health System, our motto is Meliora which mean ever better. It guides us to strive for excellence, accountability, integrity and compassion. While the star rating shows where we were as an organization with the CMS measures, we are always looking for opportunities to enhance the quality and safety of our patients.” The ribbon cutting took place to celebrate the completion of the transformation and modernization project on January 31, 2024. The $25 million project included a 5,000 square foot OR expansion, new static MRI suite and a 14,000 square foot third floor medical village to house family medicine, orthopaedics, pediatrics and OB/GYN. The project took approximately two years to complete and was funded partly through grants as well as a large capital campaign. Thank you for supporting your community hospital.

In 2023, the expanded Kudos platform was launched which allows both leaders and colleagues the opportunity to recognize team members for going above and beyond. Points are awarded for leadership recognition and award points can be used to purchase items ranging from gift cards to apparel to household items. Associates also receive automatic recognition on their birthdays and work anniversaries. BIRTHING CENTER The Dr F Clifton Miller Birthing Center at Jones Memorial is working towards a Safe Sleep program and continues the initiative with funds donated from the community as well as through the Miller Trust Fund. The Safe Sleep Program ensures parents are equipped with the knowledge and resources necessary to help prevent sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) from occurring. This includes sending each family home with a safe sleep certified swaddle sack. The department ordered 400 cream colored "healthy burrito" sleep sacks with the JMH logo. This purchase was a crucial step in becoming safe sleep certified. Local community members (above) gathered to raise money in support of the safe sleep program. MEDICAL IMAGING As part of the $25 million transformation and modernization project, the hospital installed a static magnetic resonance imaging tower. The new, state-of-the-art MRI space holds a wide bore MRI machine providing a better patient experience. The Signa Voyager is a magnetic resonance imaging system that was built with both patients and providers in mind, maximizing both comfort and versatility. It produces better image quality in less time meaning shorter scan times and offers a feet first option for some patients. It consumes 46% less power and uses fewer resources, making it a more sustainable option. The new MRI suite also includes a separate registration area, changing rooms, restrooms and inpatient holding area. A NEW MRI FOR A BETTER PATIENT EXPERIENCE
MEDICAL IMAGING Mammography was also brought back to Jones Memorial in February 2024 and the hospital saw 731 cases from February to June. The hospital installed a 3D tomosynthesis unit in January that improves the ability to detect early breast cancers and accuracy. Between 2017-2019, according to NYS Department of Health, almost 25% of women in NY diagnosed with breast cancers died from their disease. Over 35% of cancers found were already in late stage when diagnosed. With this initiative, Jones Memorial is committed to improving these statistics for our community. Medical Imaging also received a new mini c-arm for imaging needs during orthopaedic cases and a new cardiac ultrasound was purchased for echocardiograms and stress echo exams.
