Welcome Welcome to our Key Stage 3 Prizegiving ceremony which celebrates our pupils journey from Year 8 to Year 10 I extend a special word of welcome to our special guest Mr Enda McGarrity who is a past pupil of our school I am delighted we are able to come together to celebrate the many achievements of our pupils I hope that since your child joined St Ciaran s in September 2022 their experience has been in line with our mission statement As a Catholic school community St Ciaran s College provides high quality holistic education for all our pupils so that they can develop their full uniqueness and potential in a climate of mutual respect support challenge and celebration I would like to thank our teachers and support staff for their commitment energy and dedication to providing the highest quality education and having such an impact on the development of the whole child both inside and outside of the classroom Parents I would also like to thank you for your support since the positive partnership between home and school makes a major contribution to your child s overall progress As the pupils now enter another phase on their educational journey we look forward to supporting them and helping them to build on their achievements to date PRINCIPAL 20th June 2025

Mr Enda McGarrit y Gue st of Honour Enda is a Partner at PA Duffy Company Solicitors and leads the Human Rights and Public law department within the firm Enda s caseload consists of Public Inquiries Inquests Judicial review and complex litigation against State agencies including wrongful death claims and environmental actions He is currently instructed by Northern Ireland Bereaved Families for Justice in the ongoing UK Covid 19 Inquiry which is considered to be the largest public inquiry in UK history In addition he is instructed by bereaved families in the Republic of Ireland to seek a public inquiry to investigate the State s handling of Covid 19 as well as acting in multiple ongoing wrongful death actions in respect of deaths related to major outbreaks of Covid 19 in nursing homes More recently Enda has started representing a group called Ladies with Letters who are seeking an investigation in to the cervical screening scandal in the Southern Health and Social Care Trust Enda also represents clients in Inquests concerning troubles related murders Enda has a keen interest in environmental issues and is instructed by various individuals and groups seeking to address damage caused to the environment by pollution including cases in relation to the ongoing blue green algae crisis in Lough Neagh He has a strong passion for helping those who are vulnerable and unable to advocate for themselves During his training he completed a 5 week human rights internship in Cape Town South Africa where he provided legal assistance to refugees and members of the LGBTQ community who were being subjected to discrimination Enda continues to carry these values in his current workload including regularly accepting instructions on pro bono cases which have a public interest dimension Outside of work Enda plays football for his club Galbally Pearses After leaving St Ciaran s he remained involved with the St Ciaran s Peregrini charity and has visited Zambia on four occasions Enda credits St Ciaran s for having played a major role in not only his education but also developing him in other areas such as sport and charity
