Come by the library starting Saturday June 15th to pick up a registration bag.WONDERLAND: CURIOUS NATURE AT NEW YORK BOTANICAL GARDEN/LUNCH ON YOUR OWN ON ARTHUR AVENUEDate: Friday, May 24thTime: Leave the library promptly at 8:00 a.m. and start back to the library at 3:00 p.m.Price: $93 check, or money order, made payable to the Amityville Public Library is due upon registration.The New York Botanical Garden will feature horticultural and contemporary art installations that evoke the spirit of exploration and uncanny nature of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. During Wonderland: Curious Nature, visitors will choose a variety of experiences as they embark on a journey encompassing mind-bending horticultural displays and mesmerizing and immersive art installations in and around NYBG’s iconic glasshouse, the Enid A. Haupt Conservatory, in the LuEsther T. Mertz Library Building, and across the historic 250-acre grounds. Visitors will be able to venture through a rabbit hole, experience installations that offer outsize scale and unusual perspectives, and engage their curiosity about science and nature. We will enjoy a 45-minute walking guided tour of the exhibition and a visit to the gift shop before we head over to Arthur Avenue to enjoy lunch on our own. You will also have time to walk around the cute little bakeries, markets, and other shops before we head back home. *Note: The price does not include gratuity for the bus driver or lunch on your own. Registration will begin on Friday, April 26th at 9:00 a.m. for all Amityville Public Library cardholders and Tuesday, April 30th at 9:00 a.m. for all non-library cardholders.MYSTIC SEAPORT MUSEUM & TRIP TO DOWNTOWN MYSTIC, CONNECTICUTDate: Thursday, June 13thTime: Leave the library promptly at 7:00 a.m. and start back to the library at 4:00 p.m. Price: $104 check, or money order, made payable to the Amityville Public Library is due at registration. The Mystic Seaport Museum grounds cover 19 acres on the Mystic River in Mystic, Connecticut, and include a recreated New England coastal village, a working shipyard, formal exhibit halls, and state-of-the-art artifact storage facilities. The Museum is home to more than 500 historic watercrafts, including four National Historic Landmark vessels, most notably the 1841 whaleship Charles W. Morgan, America’s oldest commercial ship still in existence. A stroll through the historic village enables visitors to experience firsthand from staff historians, storytellers, musicians, and craftspeople just what life was like to earn one’s living from the sea. After exploring the Mystic Seaport Museum on foot, leave it in your wake with a boat ride. Board the 1908 steamboat Sabino for a unique 30-minute peaceful ride and see the sites along the Mystic River. Drinks and snacks are available for purchase on the dock before boarding. After that we head back home. *Note: The price does not include gratuity for the bus driver or lunch on your own. Registration will begin on Friday, April 26th at 9:00 a.m. for all Amityville Public Library cardholders and Tuesday, April 30th at 9:00 a.m. for all non-library cardholders.Bus TripsThe Addition & Alterations project has begun, construction fencing has been installed in the parking lot and around the building, a temporary entrance will be constructed on the West side of the building by the corner of Oak & John Streets for access into the building. There will also be a trailer in the parking lot to serve as an express drop off/pick up location for library materials. Please let a staff member know if you want to pick up an item at the trailer or inside the building. The hours of operation for the trailer will be 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.Parking in the Library/Village lot may be limited at certain times especially with the construction fencing, so if you’re just visiting to pick up or drop off materials, please use the express station within the trailer or the book drop located outside of the trailer. As always, no fines or late fees will be assessed, only missing or damaged items will be charged.During the renovation process, we will do our very best to make sure your experience at the Amityville Public Library is consistent with the service you expect.
