A message from yourPresidentBrothers and Sisters, It is unquestionable that 2019 was a challenging year for law enforcement in Nashville and across the nation. The challenges we face in our profession are unrelenting and we are asked each day to meet those challenges head on in a professional manner, often with fewer resources, to accomplish the mission. It is crucial that as we face these challenges, we also ensure we are taking the necessary precautions to deal with the resulting stress that can be just as unrelenting. I implore you to use the many resources available to you to find relief. Our department is fortunate in that we have a Behavioral Health Services component recognized as one of the top ten in the nation by the department of justice, counselors that we can trust to help us in our times of need and a robust peer support program. As great as these programs are, there is always room for improvement! As you read this letter, your FOP has been diligently working on having legislation filed at the state legislature to protect the conversations you may have with a certified and trained peer supporter so that you can have the utmost confidence that your challenges will remain confidential and feel comfortable in utilizing the resources available. While this is not law yet, it is something we are hopeful will be successful. Officer wellness is absolutely one of the top priorities of the FOP and we will continue to advocate for improvements in that realm. This is just one of the many things the FOP is advocating for on your behalf every day and we are always looking for your involvement as we tackle these challenges head-on! Regardless of what it may be, if it affects your pay, benefits or working conditions, and you have a solution in mind, we would love to hear about it at fopconcerns@gmail.com. All submissions will remain confidential to anyone outside of the FOP Board of directors, so please don’t hesitate to submit your thoughts. As always, if you should ever need anything, please don’t hesitate to contact me at (615) 474-8898. Fraternally, James SmallwoodPresidentAndrew Jackson Lodge #5

As many of you know, the TennesseeCriminal Court of Appeals declined tohear the appeal to change the venue inthe upcoming trial for Andrew Delke. This decision was not one made on themerits of the case, rather it was onemade on the argument that the defensehad not met the threshold to appeal the decision; adecision that many legal minds in this city disagree with. That being said, Andrew Delke’s Trial will proceed as scheduled. The first day of the trial is March 16. Please mark your calendars and make it a point to be there. Andrew deserves a full showing of support from his FOP members as Glenn Funk carries on this political circus. More information will be forthcoming, but, for now, please make sure you are available to attend the trial to support our brother!

In less than eight hours, the FOP sold out of the barrels donated by Jack Daniels. A total of $6000 dollars was raised for the new Nashville FOP Foundation to directly benefit officers. Special thanks to Jack Daniels for their support and to all those that helped move barrels to make this possible! FOP Foundation
