 Did you know that in India there is the Taj Mahal one of the seven wonders of the world, that there are more than 10 languages spoken, that there are so many dances I can't even name them, that there are so many foods you can't eat them all, that there are so many holidays you won't be able to celebrate them all, that there are so many animals you won't be able to see them all, that there are so many fashion styles you won't be able to rock them all, that there are so many types of art you won't be able to do all of them. Well india has all of these things.


  Idli is a trditional South Indian breakfast food. It is a small savory cake made out of black lettiles and rice batter these have a very plain taste on their own. So it is enjoyed with Sambar and Mint Chutney.

  India has a delicious variety of food. All Indian food is very flavorful because of the spices that are used. Here are some of them,Dosa is an indian crepe made out of rice batter,it comes from South India. Some people like to eat Dosa with  Sambar which is a vegetable stew.

  Dahi Puri is another popular dish in india. This flavorful appetizer is a thin rice shell with a hole on the top to stuff it with patatoes, chickpeas and yogurt mint chutney to give it a tasty flavor.

  Samosa is another Indian dish, these little triangular shaped paistries are filled with peas, onions, patatoes you name it. To give them a great flavor the Samosa shells made out of flour and are either fried or baked. To give the Somosa even more flavor you can dip them in mint chutney. Chutney is a sauce.


Dahi Puri




  Diwail is the festival of light. This is an ancient Hindu festival celebrated in autumn. Depending on what religion you follow, this holiday can range from one day to six days. The way to celebrate this holiday is by puting diyas(lamps or candles) inside and outside your home.  You pray with your family to the goddess Lakshmi wearing new clothing. Then families gather to enjoy home made sweets and light up the sky with fireworks in the streets. 

  Holi is a Hindu festival to celebrate the arrival of spring, love and colors. Originally, Holi was only celebrated in North India. Now it is celebrated in most parts of India and Indian people have also brought it to the U.S.A . Holi is celebrated by taking colored powder or dry flour and throwing it at people you may or may not know. At the end of the celebration everyone is covered in color.

  India is a large country consisting of many religions and all of these religions have many holidays. Some of the holidays are Ganesh Chaturthi, Navratri, Onam, Krishna Janmashtami, Pushkar Camel Fair and almost the entire country celebrates Holi and Diwali.




  The Asisatic Lion is Indian animal which has only one population in the state of Gujrat. Adult males weigh 320 to 450 pounds and females weigh 240 to260 pounds. They are both about 3 feet tall but only males have mains. Since 2010 the population has increased because of the ban on lion hunting and presevation measures. 

  The Indian Elephant is a very large animal. They are about 6 feet to 11 feet tall and weigh 4400 to 11000 pounds. They have a grayish brown colored skin. Since, 1986 they have been on the endangered list because the males are being killed for their ivory tusks.

  India is home to many animals. The Bengal Tiger is the national animal of both India and Bengal. There are about 2226 Bengal Tigers in India. The Bengal Tiger's fur is light orange and yellow with dark stripes ranging from brown to black and have a white belly. The Siberian tiger is the largest tiger in the world but the Bengal Tiger is a close second. They live in dense forests, mangrove swamps and jungles.

  The last piece of the Sari is the drape. It is a long piece of cloth that is five to nine yards long and two to four feet wide. One end of it is tucked into the Chaniyo, and then around the back to the left side and then they drape it over the left shoulder.

  The Chaniyo is the bottom piece of the Sari also known as a skirt. The Chaniyo is a skirt that starts at the waist and ends at the ankles and it is tied on by a peice of string at the top.

  Colorful Bangals are also worn with the Sari. The Bengals can be made out of wood, steel, silver, gold, glass and iron.

  India has many fashion styles, one of them is the Sari. The Sari is a type of clothing for woman and it consists of three pieces. The Blouse is the top piece worn with the Sari. It has short sleeves and is croped at the middle of the upper body.





  Marathi is spoken by people from the State of Maharashtra. It is the nineteenth most spoken lanuage in the world. In 2002 there were seventy three million speakers of Marathi.

  Gujrati is spoken in the state of Gujrat. It was the first language of Mahatma Gandhi and the current prime minister Narendra Modi. It has been brought to other countrys like the U.S. or Canada by Gujrati people.

  Punjabi is spoken by one hundred two people world wide. It is the native language to Punjabi people from  the state of Punjab. Many people in Pakistan speak Punjabi as well. It is the eleventh most spoken language world wide in 2015.

  India consists of many languages. There are seventeen documented languages, there are many more but not many people speak them. The most common is Hindi, it is the fourth most popular lanugage in the world. Many languages are dilected from Hindi like Braj Bhasha, Khari Boli, Haryanvi and many more.

  The Rajabai Clock tower is like the Big Ben in London. It was created by George Gilbert Scott in South Mumbai, for he based it on Big Ben. They put the foundation stone down on March 1 1869 and was completed in November 1876 at the cost of 200,000 rupees.

  Amber Fort is a must see destination in India. It is located in Jaipur, Rajasthan. It is known for its artistic style. It was built in the sixteenth century by Maan Singh Saheb, war cheif of emperor Akbar. Inside the fort there are three palaces. All of the palaces have very special details such as delicate mosaic work in glass, doors made of Sandal wood and ivory. One of the palaces has special room which has walls and celing made of small glass. The reflection of the small candles light turns into thousands of stars in this room.

  Chatrapati Shivaji Terminus a historic rail way station located in Mumbai Maharashtra designed by Fredrick William Steavens. Construction started in 1878 and finished in1888. It cost 1,614,000 rupees which is 240,00 dollars at the end.

  India has many interesting things to see. The Taj Mahal is one of the seven wonders of the world. The white mausoleum on the southern bank of the Yamuna River in the city of Agra. Mugal emperor Shah Jahan had it made to house his favorite wive's tomb. At the time it was built, it cost about 52.8 billion rupees which is 827 million dollars.

  Mendi also known as Henna is a temporary tatto. Mendi is made out of a Mendi plant leaves. After the leaves are dried they are crushed into a dry powder that is turned into a moist paste and transfered into a cone shaped tube. Then person applying it to their hands or feet can cut the tip off and squeeze to make designs. Brides usually have a Mendi celebration where Mendi is applyed to the bride and her female relatives the night before the wedding.

  India has many different types of art. One type of art is Rangoli, which is made in the courtyard of Indian homes during Diwail to welcome the goddess of light Lakshmi into the home. Rangoil is a design or pattern made of flower petels,colored rice,colored sand,colored dry flour or colored powder. Rangoil is easy to learn.



Mendi (Henna tatto)

  Bhangra is a Punjabi dance, traditionally only done by men. Bhangra is also performed in a circle. Dolak is played according to the local beat. Dolak is the drum. Bhangra is easy to learn if you can follow the beat. It is so much fun that now women and children have started to do Bhangra.

  Garba and Raas is done during the festival of Navratri, which is a festival of triumph of good over evil. Garba and Raas come from state of Gujarat. Garba is preformed by clapping your hands while dancing in a circle around a lit lamp and picture of goddess of Sakti. In Raas people use wood, metal or plastic sticks called Dandiya. The dance is performed by forming two lines and hitting Dandiya with the person across from you. Garba and Raas is very easy to learn. Men, women and children enjoy this dance.

  Indian people love to dance therefore, there are many types of dances. Bharatanatyam is from temples in Tamil Nadu in South India. Nataraja is one form of this classical dance. This dance is usually done by woman but men can do it too. This dance requires many years of traning and practice.


Garba and Rass



  Many religions such as Hinduism, Jainism, and Buddhism orignated in India. Hinduism is the commonly practiced by the people of India. In Hinduism there are three main gods. Brahma is the creator, Shiva is the destroyer, and Vishnu is the preserver. There are many other gods and goddesses such as Shakti goddess of power, Ganesh god of good luck. Some people only worship one of the three main gods.

  Jainism was established around 500 B.C by Mahavir. Jains believe that everything is living. So their diets are vegetarian. Very religous jains won't even walk in the grass or fields to prevent themselves from stepping on bugs by accident.

  Buddism was established around 500 B.C. like Jainism. They have a vegetarian diet as well. Bhuddhists do not have a god. They keep picture of Buddha in their homes. Although, Buddha is not a god, most people in east India and places east of India practice Buddism.
