Key Takeaways2024 Impact ReportMillennium FellowshipPage 46Rising Global Demand for Youth Leadership The 18.5% surge in applications since 2023 and the sustained upwardtrend over years reflects the growing demand among young people todrive change and the program’s strong appeal. The challenge is nolonger just about engaging youth but about equipping them with theright tools and opportunities to sustain their impact. Ensuring long-term investment in leadership development is critical to maximizingthis momentum and in ensuring that the program fills the unmetdemand and benefits more student leaders.Impact is Measured Not Just in Numbers, But in ContinuityWith over 2,110 projects launched and more than a million livesimpacted, the real success lies in the fact that 69.4% of these initiativescontinue beyond the program. Key Takeaways2024 Impact ReportMillennium FellowshipPage 47Diversity & RepresentationThe program witnesses diversity in various aspects:Majority Female: Women remain underrepresented in formalleadership positions worldwide. The Fellowship provides an essentialpipeline for young women to develop leadership skills and break intothese spaces. The majority of participants in the Millennium Fellowshipare women, with 58.78% of the Class of 2024 identifying as female, reflecting the program's dedication to fostering diverse leadership.Global South Representation: The class of 2024 highlights robustparticipation from Africa, South Asia, and Latin America, regions thathave been historically underrepresented in global decision-makingspaces.Majority People of Color: 58.3% of the Class of 2024 identifies aspeople of color. This suggests that the Millennium Fellowship activelyreaches communities that are traditionally underrepresented in globalleadership spaces. Interdisciplinary Diversity: Fellows came from 283 campuses acrossthe world, spanning disciplines from engineering to law, medicine tosocial sciences. The collaboration between diverse academicbackgrounds strengthens social impact work, as different disciplinesbring unique problem-solving approaches. However, diversity in participation doesn’t necessarily mean equity inopportunities post-Fellowship. Many people of color still face systemicbarriers when accessing funding, policy influence, and leadership roles. The Shift from Hope to Agency [Call to Action]Perhaps the biggest takeaway is that this generation is no longer justhopeful, they are actively building solutions. The Fellowship isn’t justabout raising awareness; it is about creating actors of change whoexercise their civic agency. The Impact Report 2024 is a call to action, not just for Fellows but foruniversities, philanthropies, funders to rethink how they engage, empower, and sustain young changemakers and civic engagementworldwide to support programs like the Millennium Fellowshipdesigned to turn hope into actionable community driven solutions.
