Through our specialized enrichment programs, students and other program attendees get the opportunity to connect with others, grow social skills, and discover new interests. The Bailey Foundation cultivated The Saint Louis Hollywood Academy (TSHA) as a creative after-school learning opportunity to house these quality arts-infused enrichment programs: • Our 12-week Dance/Step classes help children from K-12th grade develop spatial awareness and mind-body connection while staying active, healthy, and strong. • Theater classes offer an incredible emotional and creative outlet while building confidence, social skills, problem-solving skills, and learning to work with others. • Our Music offerings provide options including (but not limited to) drumline, choir, music instruction, and spoken word, all of which encourage fine motor skill development and creativity. • Visual Arts classes include topics such as creative writing, fashion design, painting, and graphic arts, which are known to help relieve stress, boost confidence, and develop fine motor skills. • Our Finally Safe partner and affiliate organization is open to at-risk boys in middle school through high school to support empowerment through the gaining of self-confidence and career-building skills, learning about finance, and receiving holistic support. We also offer Future Leaders of Tomorrow - Young Professional Development as an important pillar of our enrichment programs. Here, students learn the principles of successful leadership and professionalism through personal and professional development, financial literacy, and hands-on engagement. Each year, we host a production for our young professionals from different schools and communities to come together to showcase their development through the program, and to promote unity, cultural education, and community engagement.Through these enrichment programs, we aim to make a long-lasting difference in the lives of participants as they become agents of change.Through our art-infused enrichment programs, students develop healthy actions and behaviors, critical thinking and social awareness practices that they carry with them for a lifetime; Through THA children are not only encouraged to embrace their creativity but also to inspire creativity in others.

CHALLENGES AND LESSONS LEARNED

Page 33

The Bailey Foundation 31IntroductionWelcome to the ‘Challenges and Lessons Learned’ section, where we reflect on the hurdles we’ve faced and the invaluable insights gained along the way. At The Bailey Foundation, we embrace every challenge as an opportunity for growth and improvement. Despite the unforeseeable events and transitions brought on by COVID-19 in only year two of existence, our vision remains steadfast, guided by our core values as our North star. We operate with humility to foster growth and excellence, while proudly showcasing our passion and commitment to youth and community. We invite you to take a glimpse into our journey, sharing the challenges overcome and the lessons that have shaped our path towards greater impact and resilience.

Page 34

32 2020-2023 Impact ReportIdentified ChallengesAs our front-line efforts dramatically increased throughout COVID-19, access to reliable staffing posed significant hurdles on our program operations. How this challenge was addressedThe Bailey Foundation hired an HR consultant to incorporate staffing solutions, receiving consulting and advisory from organizations such as CN Resource to assist with food program challenges post-COVID. TBF’s consultants and advisors assisted in hiring volunteer leaders and contractors to navigate the demand, while also providing support in onboarding, recruitment, training, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) processes. This strategic approach ensured that staffing needs were effectively addressed, enhancing the organization’s capacity to meet program demands during critical periods. The Bailey Foundation relies heavily on federal and local grants to fund operations, which can significantly impact our ability to meet the demands of our beneficiaries. Focusing heavily on meeting grant reporting needs has a tremendous effect on our capacity to remain focused on the overall mission, as ever-changing reporting criteria leave little room for evolution to meet the direct needs of our ongoing partners and beneficiaries. How this challenge was addressedEfforts were made to diversify funding sources by seeking corporate sponsorships, individual donations, and exploring alternative revenue streams to reduce reliance on grants. Streamlining reporting processes and improving efficiency in grant management also helped alleviate the burden on staff.Partnering w/grant-making organizations and funders who remain flexible to the overall mission of The Bailey Foundation and our long-term financial goals have proven to be critical to our overal succes and growth strategies.STAFFINGGRANT DEPENDENCYFood deliveries help cut down on my groceries. 33The Bailey FoundationCOVID-19 posed challenges due to the constant changes in landscape and scope of work. We reported over 50 changes throughout COVID, pressuring us to incorporate technology and digital solutions to manage and coordinate the robust logistics and reporting requirements. How this challenge was addressedThe organization adapted swiftly to the changing landscape by embracing technology and digital solutions. Digital recordkeeping enabled real-time on-site reporting, facilitating efficient data management and decision-making processes. Utilizing platforms like DoorDash and online software enhanced logistics for seamless operations, including deliveries, menu planning, and scheduling. Additionally, The Bailey Foundation pre-recorded content to provide virtual access to students and families for enrichment courses and meal recipes, ensuring continuity of services despite the challenges posed by the pandemic and beyond…Leveraging technological solutions also allowed us to communicate faster and more effectively with our stakeholders and beneficiaries. These strategies enabled us to effectively address reporting and landscape challenges, ensuring the Bailey Foundation remained resilient, responsive, and mission-driven in the face of adversity.IMPACT OF COVID-19Now more than ever, your support is crucial in overcoming the ongoing obstacles to make a difference in the lives of many.Join us in our mission to continue transforming lives… Whether through donations, volunteering, or spreading awareness, together, we can make a meaningful difference in our communities.
