12Version 1 Updated April 24, 2025Pageant Competitions & Judging CriteriaThe Interview Competition is a great time to let the judges know just why they should pick you as an IJM International Queen. Our judges are warm and friendly. They like to see a kid being a kid, and a teen who enjoys being a teenager. Miss delegates will have the opportunity to speak a little bit more about their plans for the future. All questions will be age-appropriate. There will be no political, religious, or ‘textbook’ questions. The judges simply want to know who you are! IJM prides itself on being fashion-forward. Your interview attire should reflect that. You are interviewing for the job of International Titleholder. Dresses, jumpsuits, and two-piece ensembles are all acceptable. We want to see your personality reflected in your interview attire. We are not looking for corporate-type suits. The photo on the right provides examples of the sort of attire appropriate for this area of competition. You will need to be in line at least 15 minutes prior to your scheduled interview time. This time will be provided to you at check-in.INTERVIEWFUN FASHIONEach delegate will model an outfit of her own choosing. It must be age appropriate and it should portray the delegate’s personal sense of style and fashion. This outfit should be fun! It can be as simple or ornate as you would like. No denim attire, please. You may accessorize as you like, but no props such as umbrellas, purses or bags will be allowed on stage. We recommend timing your routine to 40 seconds. Timing starts once your title is called from center stage. Timing ends once you land your final pose. There is a hard time limit of 50 seconds. If you exceed this limit, you will receive a full point deduction from your judges’ average in this category. That is why we recommend planning a 40 second routine. Each Required Competition counts for 1/3 of your preliminary total score.Interview Timing:Junior Divisions: 2 Minutes per judgeSenior Divisions: 3 Minutes per judge
13Version 1 Updated April 24, 2025All delegates must wear a floor length gown that is age appropriate for the Evening Gown competition. Remember, fit and style are very important in this competition. We suggest taking time to get your garments tailored by a professional seamstress to fit your body. Following trends are great, but make sure that you select a dress style that compliments your particular body type. Delegates are judged on grace, poise, and elegance during their presentation. We recommend timing your routine to 50 seconds. Timing starts once your title is called from center stage. Timing ends once you land your final pose. There is a hard time limit of 60 seconds. If you exceed this limit, you will receive a full point deduction from your judges’ average in this category. That is why we recommend planning a 50 second routine.EVENING GOWNCompetition & JudgingINTERVIEW, FUN FASHION, AND EVENING GOWN: Each competition counts as a third of your total preliminary score. The judges will score each preliminary category, and those scores will be added up to determine the top semi-finalists in each division. We will announce a Top 12 in each division.During the finale show, all top finalists will receive an additional score from each judge as they re-compete in Fun Fashion and Evening Gown. These points will be added to the delegate’s overall preliminary score. This total of preliminary plus final show scores will determine the final placement of our Top 5. A delegate’s interview scores will be used as a tie-breaker if needed. While we will announce a Top 5 who will get to do a ‘final look’ before crowning, this final look is not judged.HAIR & MAKEUP PROGRAM STANDARDS: Princess and Jr. Pre-Teens are not allowed to wear makeup during the interview competition. Pre-Teens may wear natural makeup for interview, such as light powder and lip gloss. All Junior Divisions (Princess, Jr. Pre-Teen, and Pre-Teen) are allowed to wear makeup during onstage competitions. This makeup should be natural and age-appropriate, meant to only pop the delegate’s features under the bright stage lighting. Heavy contouring and excessive eye makeup are never appropriate for our Junior Divisions here at International Junior Miss. Delegates are also not permitted to wear fake lashes in the Junior Divisions. There will be someone specifically monitoring adherence to these makeup guidelines as the girls take the stage, and a one-point deduction per event will be made accordingly. Age-appropriate makeup is permitted for all of our Senior Divisions (Jr. Teen. Teen, Miss, and Ms.).Optional Category Competitions Optional competitions are an additional opportunity for delegates to express their style, skills, and talents on our beautiful International stage. Optional competitions are judged by a separate panel of judges and do not impact the selection of our new International Royalty. The following pages have additional information about the optional categories that are available to enter.

Version 1 Updated April 24, 2025All delegates will be allowed to have one female parent/guest to serve as their dressing room assistant for all Optional Contests and Prelims. For finale, we will allow our Junior Divisions to have one female parent/guest backstage with them for changes. Our Senior Divisions will be provided backstage hands to assist with quick changes during finale. Once wardrobe changes are completed, all dressing room assistants will be asked to leave the dressing rooms. At no time will a dressing room assistant be allowed to stand at stage level or in the wings. Any backstage assistant that does not follow the rules will be asked to leave the dressing room area and return to their seats immediately. It is our suggestion that you choose simple, elegant hairstyles and outfits that are easy to get into and out of quickly. It is very important that all delegates, family members, and friends at the pageant remember that good Sportsmanship is a must. Parents, YOU set the example. Only one delegate in each division will be named the winner. Only a few delegates will win special awards or be finalists. However, each delegate will bring to the pageant her own special flair. These delegates are presenting themselves and performing in front of judges and a live audience. It takes unique and special young ladies to handle those duties. This is why we believe that every delegate is a winner. You and your family should feel proud of this achievement and the special recognition of representing your state, region or country. Delegates, parents, and guests displaying poor Sportsmanship will be asked to leave the pageant without the benefit of a refund of any kind, will not be invited back to the pageant and will forfeit any prizes or gifts awarded. DRESSING ROOM POLICYEach year, IJM reserves space on behalf of Hair and Makeup Teams that are attending IJM to provide hair and makeup services to our delegates. Our Powerhouse Elite Hair & Makeup Teams will be on-hand during the event: Makeup by MasKara and Sammie Paige Artistry.
