Empowering Lakota youth families to improve the health culture and environment of our communities through the healing and strengthening of cultural identity Lakota Language Initiative of Thunder Valley CDC is a multifaceted set of programs driven by the common goal of revitalizing the Lakota language Numerous studies have shown that indigenous children who learn their heritage language have a better self image and higher confidence Therefore an investment in the language is an investment in our children By approaching language revitalization from several angles the aim is to improve fluency among current speakers increase the number of fluent speakers create greater access to the Lakota language in literature digital arenas deepen ties to culture and empower people through the legacy of language www thundervalley org
