INTRODUCTIONDuring the 2021 Indiana Legislave Session, the IDA introduced a bill allowing densts to administer vaccinaons to paents. This legislaon was successful, and as of April 2021, Indiana densts are now entrusted to help vaccinate Hoosiers for a wide variety of condions.This guide outlines the basic requirements and provisions of the bill to help densts understand their responsibilies with regard to vaccinaons. OVERVIEWDensts who wish to administer vaccines in Indiana should be aware of the following requirements:• Paents must be 11 or older.• The denst must be cered in CPR.• The denst must complete a course of vaccine instrucon approved by the Indiana State Board of Denstry. See approved courses below.• Only licensed densts may administer vaccines to paents.• Currently COVID-19 vaccines are distributed to states only through the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.• The CDC maintains a list of vaccine manufacturers at www.cdc.gov/vaccines/hcp/admin/stor-age/downloads/manufact-dist-contact.pdf. APPROVED VACCINESIn addion to COVID-19, Indiana densts may administer the following vaccines to paents 11 and older:• Anthrax• Cholera• DTaP/Tdap/Td• Ebola• Hepas A and B• Hib virusA denst may also administer any vaccine during an emergency declared by the Indiana State Department of Health or the Indiana Department of Homeland Security.REPORTING AND RECORDSDensts must adhere to the following reporng and record requirements. Please note that although only a denst may administer a vaccine, the denst can designate an oce sta member to report the vaccinaon(s) as required below. Permission• For paents aged 11 and 17, wrien permission is required from the paent’s parent or guardian.• The parent or guardian must be present during the vaccinaon of a minor.Records• A record of the vaccinaon must be included in the paent’s treatment record.• Nocaon of the vaccine must be submied to the paent’s primary physician within 14 days.• The vaccine must be reported to the Indiana Children and Hoosiers Immunizaon Registry Program (CHIRP): hps://eportal.isdh.in.gov/MyVaxIndiana/Default2.aspxAdverse Reacons• Adverse reacons must be reported to the paent’s primary physician within 72 hours.• Adverse reacons must also be reported to the Vaccine Adverse Event Reporng System (VAERS) database.• HPV• Inuenza• Japanese Encephalis• MMR/MMRV• Meningis• Pneumonia • Polio• Rabies• Rotavirus• Shingles• Tuberculosis• Typhoid• Varicella• Yellow Fever
