PORTRAITS Ian Atkinson s portraiture is highly individual and has won him international acclaim as one of the world s leading portrait photographers His work has been featured in prestigious awards such as the Taylor Wessing Portrait Prize in 2010 2013 and 2014 and has also been recognised by the worlds largest photo expo Les Rencontres d Arles and more recently the KLPA international portrait awards Malyasia He has just completed a series of portraits of all 32 London Borough Mayors all shot on location at each individual mayoral office The series includes the Lord Mayor of London Fiona Woolf The project aims to celebrate the diversity and multiculturalism of London through a single figure head Ian brings a very unique style to his portrait photography each image with its own narrative quality The images encourage the viewer to look beyond the simplicity of the image A constant questioning of what the portrait is and its place in society has helped Ian to develop a deep understanding of portrait photography Although this is a more fine art approach to creating imagery it can still be applied to more commercial based portraits where there is a necessity for the image to have an element of narrative Ian is happy to discuss both evironmental portraits corporate portraits and head shots All of which can be used for Advertising marketing PR and annual reports

Ian working on location for the London Borough Mayors project Commissioned portraits are generally shot on location Ian brings along a mobile studio using either conventional studio backgrounds or working within the environment Ian consults with the client his ideas as to what will make the best portrait and brings a very relaxed manner to the shoot Images can be seen on screen before final approval and any minimal retouching is undertaken
