Marilyn Klink has moved to Cedarwood from the farm in Boone County where she has lived since 1959. She was born in Rensselaer, Indiana and grew up in Wolcott, graduating from Wolcott High School. She married her husband, George, soon after high school and moved to the farm. Marilyn helped with all areas of running the farm. Her husband died when he was 65. Marilyn has six children all of whom were able to attend college. Mike lives near the farm. Jim lives in Lafayette, Indiana, while Suzanne lives in northern Indiana. John lives in Texas and twins Tim and Tom live near the farm and in South Bend, Indiana. She has too many grandchildren to count. Aside from helping her husband run the farm, Marilyn spent 50 years helping at her church by cooking dinners for funerals. Maybe she has some good recipes to share. Welcome to Hoosier Village Marilyn! Please help us extend a warm welcome to Steve and Ruth Carter, who moved into their new Poplar Chase home in early November. Steve was raised in Decatur, Illinois, completed his undergraduate degree at the University of Illinois Champaign/Urbana, and studied medicine at the University of Illinois in Chicago. Having been born in Belgian Congo and growing up in Kenya, Ruth attended nursing school in Oak Park, Illinois, achieving her RN status. She then earned her BSN from the University of Illinois College of Nursing. This is also when Steve and Ruth met and later married. After leaving the University of Illinois, the Carters moved to Waynesboro, Pennsylvania, where they resided for approximately 35 years. Steve had a practice in general surgery, while Ruth first worked as a surgical nurse and then taught nursing students. After five years, Ruth decided to be a “stay-at-home” mom to their four sons. During that time, Ruth also volunteered in their church as a children’s teacher and then as the Director of Education for Children’s Ministries. In addition to their four sons, the Carters now also have 13 grandchildren. After Steve had retired from his surgery practice, he and Ruth moved to Burlington, Kentucky where they resided for the past 12 years prior to moving into Hoosier Village. While in Burlington, the Carters began new volunteer careers as the directors of volunteers for the Creation Museum and the Ark Encounter. They also managed the guest house where volunteers stayed. In their leisure time, Steve and Ruth both enjoy golf and gardening. Steve also does woodworking, while Ruth enjoys quilting, rug hooking, and writing. Ruth has written three books for children and one for grandparents (regarding things to do when the grandkids come over). The couple has also made several overseas mission trips, including east Africa and Haiti. Welcome to Hoosier Village, Steve and Ruth! Jackie and Dennis Donnelly have moved from Westfield to settle into their Woodside home at 5495 Cedar Branch Circle. Jackie, born in the District of Columbia, and Dennis, born in Rockville Centre, Long Island, New York, both worked in D.C. Jackie graduated from the University of Lynchburg with a degree in English; she worked in the Department of Agriculture for 34 years. She has also enjoyed her work in the buying and selling of antiques and jewelry. Dennis received his JD from SUNY Buffalo and worked as litigation attorney for several auto dealerships, and as a contractor in D.C. for the Department of Justice, handling such cases as the tobacco industry and the 20th hijacker! Dennis now spends several days a week at the museum at Speedway, giving tours. More on that connection later… The Donnellys have one son, who when he chose to attend IU, encouraged them to move to Indiana. (They now also have a 5 1/2 year old granddaughter nearby.) Jackie’s interests include the Questers, ladies who like antiques and jewelry, and their 15 years with the choir at 2nd Presbyterian Church. Jackie says she’s now busy trying to get out of organizations! Dennis’ love of all things automobile includes racing and antique autos (hence the Speedway museum position), and he also enjoys literature and history. The Donnellys have traveled to beautiful countries like Ireland (as a 40th birthday surprise trip!) and Italy. They traveled with the choir to special sites also, including Italy and Greece. At home they are owned by a very beautiful Gordon Setter, McKenzie. Welcome, Jackie and Dennis. We are glad you have joined the Hoosier Village community.
